Maternal Cardiovascular Impairment in Pregnancies Complicated by Severe Fetal Growth Restriction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
—Fetal growth restriction and preeclampsia are both conditions of placental etiology and associated to increased risk for the long-term development of cardiovascular disease in the mother. At presentation, preeclampsia is associated with maternal global

Level of hsCRP Maternal Serum During Puerperium of Severe Preeclampsia

open access: yesJournal of Biomedicine and Translational Research, 2018
Background: Preeclampsia and eclampsia arestill major problemsin the world. Maternal mortality of severe preeclampsia at the puerperal period is likely to be greater because of the cardiovascular diseases (CVD). HsCRP (high sensitivity C-Reactive Protein)

Haptoglobin Phenotype, Preeclampsia Risk and the Efficacy of Vitamin C and E Supplementation to Prevent Preeclampsia in a Racially Diverse Population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Haptoglobin's (Hp) antioxidant and pro-angiogenic properties differ between the 1-1, 2-1, and 2-2 phenotypes. Hp phenotype affects cardiovascular disease risk and treatment response to antioxidant vitamins in some non-pregnant populations.

A lesson for cancer research : placental microarray gene analysis in preeclampsia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Tumor progression and pregnancy share many common features, such as immune tolerance and invasion. The invasion of trophoblasts in the placenta into the uterine wall is essential for fetal development, and is thus precisely regulated.

Trophoblast lineage-specific differentiation and associated alterations in preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The human placenta is a poorly-understood organ, but one that is critical for proper development and growth of the fetus in-utero. The epithelial cell type that contributes to primary placental functions is called "trophoblast," including two main ...

Iodine deficiency in pregnancy along a concentration gradient is associated with increased severity of preeclampsia in rural Eastern Cape, South Africa

open access: yesBMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, 2022
Background Preeclampsia is a leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity in South Africa. Iodine deficiency in pregnancy, which is amenable to correction through iodine supplementation, has been reported to increase the risk of preeclampsia ...

Dialysis for severe hyponatraemia in preeclampsia [PDF]

open access: yesObstetric Medicine, 2010
Severe hyponatraemia is a rare complication of preeclampsia. In the case presented, the rapid recovery of liver function test abnormalities and thrombocytopenia were accompanied by acute renal failure, relative oliguria and progressive hyponatraemia contributing to confusion and ileus. Dialysis was instigated and the patient promptly recovered.

An angiogenic marker for early prediction of preeclampsia

open access: yesAsian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2022
Background: Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-specific disease associated with a high incidence of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality with classical features of hypertension, proteinuria, and edema. Aims and Objectives: The aims of the study were to

Circulating microparticles in severe preeclampsia

open access: yesClinica Chimica Acta, 2012
The present study aimed to evaluate microparticles (MPs) from different sources in women with severe preeclampsia (PE) compared with normotensive pregnant women and non-pregnant women. This case-control study evaluated 28 pregnant women with severe PE, 30 normotensive pregnant women, and 29 non-pregnant women.
