Tracking sources and fate of groundwater nitrate in Kisumu City and Kano Plains, Kenya [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Groundwater nitrate (NO3−) pollution sources and in situ attenuation were investigated in Kisumu city and Kano plains. Samples from 62 groundwater wells consisting of shallow wells (hand dug, depth 15 m) were obtained during wet (May–July 2017) and dry ...

Enhancement of the Plant‐Accessible Phosphate Fraction in Sewage Sludge Ashes by Na+ or K+ Addition Prior to Combustion

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 18, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
The addition of Na2CO3 or K2CO3 to sewage sludge prior to combustion leads to the production of ashes containing phosphate in the form of buchwaldite‐like phases (Ca(Na/K)PO4). Compared to conventional sewage sludge mono‐ashes, such Na‐ or K‐ashes show greatly increased P‐solubilities and proved to be potent P‐fertiliser materials in greenhouse ...

Determination of Wastewater Behavior of Large Passenger Ships Based on Their Main Parameters in the Pre-Design Stage

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
Wastewater formed on ships is divided into blackwater and graywater. While blackwater refers to wastewater from toilets, graywater defines wastewater from sinks, laundry and restaurants.

Specificity and sensitivity evaluation of novel and existing Bacteroidales and Bifidobacteria-specific PCR assays on feces and sewage samples and their application for microbial source tracking in Ireland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Three novel ruminant-specific PCR assays, an existing ruminant-specific PCR assay and five existing human-specific PCR assays, which target 16S rDNA from Bacteroidales or Bifidobacteria, were evaluated.

Positive Doping Test Linked to Crumb Rubber From Artificial Football Pitch: Case Report

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
1,3‐DMBA was detected in urine samples of eight athletes following a doping control, resulting in one AAF and levels below WADA's MRL in seven teammates. Investigation revealed contamination from rubber infill used on the indoor artificial turf, with analysis confirming 1,3‐DMBA in the turf's crumb rubber originating from recycled tires.

Sewage and the Bacterial Purification of Sewage [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1901
THE practicability of effecting the purification of town sewage on the large scale by bacterial agency has now been abundantly proved. The process has passed beyond the experimental stage, and must now be acknowledged as the only method which can convert the putrescible matter of sewage on the large scale into inoffensive and harmless substances ...

Synergistic phosphorus removal mechanism of Tetrasphaera enrichment in a micro-pressure swirl reactor

open access: yesnpj Clean Water
To investigate the effect of Tetrasphaera’s enrichment on phosphorus removal mechanism, three micro-pressure swirl reactor (MPSR) groups were used to experiment on sewage treatment under different SRT (17.2, 50.8, and 68.2 d).
