European corn borer sex pheromone
Journal of Chemical Ecology, 1989The biological activity of analogs of the pheromone components of the European corn borer,Ostrinia nubilalis, (Z)- and (E)-11-tetradecen1-ol acetate, in which modifications were made in the terminal alkyl portion were studied in the three pheromonal types of the insect.

Triunsaturated hydrocarbons, sex pheromone components ofCaenurgina erechtea
Journal of Chemical Ecology, 1983(Z,Z,Z)-3,6,9-Eicosatriene and (Z,Z,Z)-3,6,9-heneicosatriene have been identified as components of the sex pheromone of the noctuid,Caenurgina erechtea (Cramer), the forage looper. Structural assignments were made on the basis of spectroscopic and chromatographic data and were confirmed by comparison with synthetic material.

Evolution of Moth Sex Pheromone Desaturases
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2009Moth sex pheromone communication has evolved to use complex blends of relatively simple long‐chain fatty acid precursors. Species specificity is derived from the unique stereochemistry of double bonds introduced into exact locations along the hydrocarbon backbone of fatty acids, which are reduced and then undergo a variety of chain‐shortening and ...

Manipulating Sex Pheromones for Insect Suppression
Environmental Letters, 1975A review is given of different methods of using sex pheromones in pest control programs. Survey and monitoring traps have been used extensively for determining the presence and abundance of pest populations are commercially available. Pheromone trapping studies for insect suppression have shown success with some species and could be a useful tool in ...
