Damage caused by Phoracantha mastersi larvae are the primary cause of forest decline in Australia's subalpine forests. Behaviour of male adult beetles was tested in response to a suite of commercial semiochemicals and conspecifics engaged in active copulation within a Y‐maze.

STUDIES OF PHYSIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE ARTHROPOD SECRETIONS: X. SEX PHEROMONE OF THE EASTERN SPRUCE BUDWORM, CHORISTONEURA FUMIFERANA (LEPIDOPTERA: TORTRICIDAE) [PDF]
The sex pheromone of the female eastern spruce budworm was identified as trans-11-tetradecenal by a combination of electroantennogram techniques, laboratory bioassays, and chemical analysis. Subsequent field trapping showed that this compound is a potent

ABSTRACT Objectives The Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) is the most widely used instrument to measure the subjective impact of oral conditions. This study reports the shortening and psychometric evaluation of an ultra‐short version (OHIP‐7A) from the OHIP‐14 in a large national Australian population.

A New Experimental Setup to Study the Olfactory Behaviour of Trichogramma Egg Parasitoids
We developed an experimental setup to assess odor‐induced egg‐laying behavior in tiny egg‐parasitoid wasps. This Y‐shaped olfactometer, coupled with an AI‐based image‐recognition model, automatically quantifies egg parasitism by Trichogramma wasps. Olfactory‐driven egg‐laying preferences were analyzed using Bayesian inference.

Identification of an aphid sex pheromone
Although aphids reproduce asexually on their host plants during the summer, many species migrate to a winter host where sexual reproduction occurs. Males of certain species locate mates by means of a sex attractant pheromone released from the hind legs of the females1–4. Here we report the identification of such a pheromone from the vetch aphid Megoura

We assessed attraction of eight elaterid species to a “generic” pheromone blend containing their eight known pheromones or sex attractants. All eight species were attracted by their specific attractants, as expected. Six species were attracted to the blend, but the remaining two species were strongly inhibited by unknown blend components.

Plant volatiles mediate host discrimination and host finding in phytophagous insects. Understanding how insects recognize these signals is a current challenge in chemical ecology research. Pear ester, ethyl (E,Z)-2,4-decadienoate, is a powerful, bisexual

Landscape and Geography Determine Saproxylic Beetle Captures in Pheromone‐Baited Traps
Pheromone‐baited traps at 39 forest sites across southern Sweden captured 58 saproxylic beetle species, including seven Red‐listed taxa. The effect of surrounding forest cover on beetle abundance may depend on latitude and longitude: positive effects were strongest in warmer southern and eastern regions but weakened or reversed in colder northwestern ...

Moth-inspired navigation algorithm in a turbulent odor plume from a pulsating source
Some female moths attract male moths by emitting series of pulses of pheromone filaments propagating downwind. The turbulent nature of the wind creates a complex flow environment, and causes the filaments to propagate in the form of patches with varying ...
