Evaluation of an unsuccessful sex Preselection clinic in Singapore
Journal of Biosocial Science, 1978SummaryThis paper evaluates a Singapore experiment to test the Shettles ‘rhythm and douche’ method of sex control. The clinic was set up in the hope that if couples could have the son they desired, they would keep their families small in accordance with the goverment's strong commitment to population control.

Sandra Serrano Sewell: This whole topic is one that I find very moving. I wanted to say something about Tabitha Powledge’s paper. I didn’t connect with a lot of what you were saying-probably about 99% of what you were saying. One thing that you said really disturbed me, as a parent.

Obstetrics and gynecology, 1977
There have been attempts to select the sex of a child prior to conception in both animals and humans. Centrifugation, microelectrophoresis and density gradient sedimentation have been used to separate X and Y sperm in animals. Only the latter technic has produced a change in sex ratio.

Challenges facing sex preselection of stallion spermatozoa
Animal Reproduction Science, 2005Since the production of the first live offspring from sex-sorted spermatozoa in 1989, there have been many developments in the fluorescence-activated cell separation (FACS) procedures to preselect X- and Y-chromosome bearing spermatozoa prior to insemination.

Technical Aspects of Sex Preselection
1981Historically, parents have preferred male children in order to continue a family line, manage property, work in the fields, and fulfill the father’s image of potency and manhood. Accordingly, very early men of science were interested in the area of sex selection and prediction. A Chinese manuscript 4400 years old deals with the subject at length.

Sex Preselection in Animals: Current Methods and Applications
Transactions of the National Academy of Science and Technology, 2003Advancement in sexing technologies, when used with other animal reproductive technologies, presents opportunities to boost food production from animal sources and thus increase the availability of animal protein in the Filipino diet. The ability to predetermine the sex of offspring before and after fertilization of the ovum would allow farmers to raise
