Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

The etiology of XX sex reversal [PDF]
The primary testis-determining function is exerted by a gene in the sex-determining region of the human Y chromosome. This gene is termed the sex-determining factor or TDF. A zinc finger gene, ZFY, residing in this region has been cloned and characterized. It is a candidate for TDF. A challenge to future molecular research is to clarify the function of

Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).

Early Sex Differentiation of Climbing Perch (Anabas testudineus Bloch.): A Pathway to Feminization
The phenomenon of sexual dimorphism in climbing perch, which shows that female fish grow faster than males, underlies the development of mono-sex culture.

Sex reversal effects of 17 beta-estradiol (E2), diethylstilbestrol (DES) and ethynylestradiol (EE2) on male gonads in F1 (AWE×WE) Japanese quail (Corturnix japonica) embryos were comparatively evaluated in a newly developed in vivo screening model ...

SEX REVERSAL: A FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH FOR SEX CHROMOSOMES? [PDF]
Nonrecombining Y chromosomes are expected to degenerate through the progressive accumulation of deleterious mutations. In lower vertebrates, however, most species display homomorphic sex chromosomes. To address this, paradox I propose a role for sex reversal, which occasionally occurs in ectotherms due to the general dependence of physiological ...

Splenogonadal fusion and sex reversal [PDF]
Splenogonadal fusion is a rare congenital malformation where an abnormal union occurs between the spleen and gonad or mesonephric derivatives. Although it occurs in females it is much less prevalent than in males (male:female ratio, 16:1), but this may partly be because of the inaccessibility of the female gonads leading to under-diagnosis.

LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Exogenous estrogen (17β-estradiol, E2) induces partial sex reversal in the Chinese giant salamander (CGS) at low concentrations (25 µg/L), and complete sex reversal at high concentrations (1000 µg/L), suggesting potential risks of skewed sex ratios in ...
