Sex Liability to Single Structural Defects
Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1978Forty-two of 52 single, localized defects of morphogenesis showed a nonrandom predeliction to one sex. For some of these malformations, the sex liability may be explained on the basis of normal anatomic or hormonal differences between the sexes. For example, the male excess of "prune belly" or triad syndrome is considered due to the fact that most ...

A sex-structured delayed recruitment model
Mathematical Biosciences, 1996A delay-difference model for a sex-structured population with delayed recruitment is presented. Constant-effort harvesting is introduced for examining the model's sensitivity to harvesting. Linear analyses about the steady states are performed under various parameter choices.

Mammalian Sex Chromosome Structure, Gene Content, and Function in Male Fertility.
Annual Review of Animal Biosciences, 2019Mammalian sex chromosomes evolved from an ordinary pair of autosomes. The X chromosome is highly conserved, whereas the Y chromosome varies among species in size, structure, and gene content.

Sex ratios in geographically structured populations
Trends in Ecology & Evolution, 1986In his book on sexual selection (1), Darwin documented evidence that the primary sex ratio (the proportion of males at conception) is about 1/2 in a wide variety of species. Otherwise, he explained, a newly conceived member of the rare sex will, on average, have more offspring than one of the common sex, since each offspring has one mother and one ...

Plant sex chromosomes: molecular structure and function
Cytogenetic and Genome Research, 2008Recent molecular and genomic studies carried out in a number of model dioecious plant species, including <i>Asparagus officinalis</i>, <i>Carica papaya</i>, <i>Silene latifolia</i>, <i>Rumex acetosa </i>and <i>Marchantia polymorpha</i>, have shed light on the molecular structure of both ...

Attitudes, Cognitive Structures and Emotional Reactivity to Sex and Security: Sex Differences
Psychological Reports, 1974An attempt was made to determine if sex differences existed for attitudes, cognitive structures, and emotional reactivity for concepts of sex and security and for stimuli. It was hypothesized that for males, the concept of sex and/or sexual stimuli will be ranked higher, elicit a stronger physiological response, elicit a greater number of responses in

The structuring of Vicarious Sex
Deviant Behavior, 1996This paper proposes a change in the typing of a form of sexual deviance: voyeurism (watching persons who are undressing, undressed, or in the act of sexual intercourse). The analysis focuses on a suggested change in what is thought to prompt voyeurism. Voyeurism is presently regarded as pathological deviance by some researchers.

Agonistic Structure Differentiated by Sex
2012The organization of characters into eight sets forms an implicit empirical hypothesis—the hypothesis that agonistic structure, differentiated by sex, is a fundamental shaping feature in the organization of characters in the novels. We predicted (1) that each of the eight character sets would be sharply defined by a distinct and integrated array of ...
