A Study of the Sexuality of Opiate Addicts
Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy, 2002The influence of heroin use on sexual behavior was studied in individuals attending a drug abuse program in Porto, Portugal. As we expected, drug abuse was found mainly to adversely affect sexual behavior. A minority of patients reported improvement in sexual behavior with heroin use.

Addicted to Pain: A Preliminary Model of Sexual Masochism as Addiction
International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology, 2016An exploratory, qualitative, phenomenological study focused on the experience of pain while participating in sexual masochistic acts. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine individuals (four female, five male) who regularly participate in sexually masochistic acts and point to pain as central to their experience.

Eighty male respondents (40 sexual offenders, 40 community subjects) completed questionnaires on sexual addiction and drug and alcohol problems.
