Neurogenesis and sexual behavior
Frontiers in Neuroendocrinology, 2018Different conditions induce proliferation, migration and integration of new neurons in the adult brain. This process of neurogenesis is a clear example of long lasting plastic changes in the brain of different species. Sexual behavior is a motivated behavior that is crucial for the survival of the species, but an individual can spend all his life ...

The mating behavior of Drosophila melanogaster is a stereotyped sequence of fixed action patterns, composed of orientation, tapping, singing, licking, attempted copulation and copulation. Mutations that block a unique aspect of mating behavior were isolated and analyzed at the cellular and molecular levels.

Sexual Behavior of Adolescents
Postgraduate Medicine, 1969Unwanted pregnancy is a disease with consequences that affect every level of society. Illegitimacy is rising to the point where it is a major social problem. Findings of the National Center for Health Statistics show that in the 1940-1965 period illegitimacy tripled. More than 40% of unwed mothers are teenagers.

This study investigated the association between drugs and sexual behavior in a sample of polydrug substance abusers recruited from several Italian therapeutic communities; participants were 90 polydrug substance abusers (opiates, cocaine, amphetamine, inhalants, marijuana/sedatives or hallucinogens abusers) who were compared with 90 nonsubstance ...

ABSTRACT: This chapter will give personal accounts of the neural basis of male rat sexual behavior from two somewhat different perspectives, one tilted towards neuroanatomy (K.L.), and one tilted towards monoaminergic pharmacology (S.A.). Both perspectives were strongly influenced by the Zeitgeist, the former imperceptibly merging into the latter as ...

Sex differences in behavior are the result of natural and sexual selection. The dimorphic classes of behavior described here, courtship, copulatory, and parental behaviors, reflect both kinds of evolutionary selective pressures. We can further distinguish two kinds of mechanisms that produce differences in male and female behaviors. In one, both sexes

CSBs constitute a wide range of complex sexual behaviors that clinicians are increasingly encountering. This article has set forth four models of CSBs: compulsive, affective, addictive, and impulsive. Some of the CSBs appear to fit rather neatly into one of the models, whereas others have features of two or more of them.

Sexual behavior in humans may be classified according to gender role, gender identity, and gender orientation. Sexually dimorphic behavior in humans is generally felt to be determined by postnatal socialization. Recent work in laboratory animals shows that sexual behavior is a function of circulating steroid hormones, particularly androgens ...

Sexual and Reproductive Behaviors
Current Protocols in Neuroscience, 1997AbstractThe procedures described in this unit include testing procedures for male and female reproductive behaviors, gonadectomy, and hormonal treatments appropriate for inducing male and female reproductive behaviors. Because reproductive behaviors are social behaviors, and therefore require the presence of stimulus animals, the protocols in this unit
