Scoping review on the use of South-South learning exchange to scale up evidence-based practices in family planning

open access: yesBMJ Global Health, 2023
Background South-South learning exchange (SSLE) is an interactive learning process where teams from low-income and middle-income countries exchange knowledge and experience to support one or both team’s work towards a change in policies, programmes or ...

Appropriate nitrogen addition regulates reproductive strategies of Leymus chinensis

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation, 2021
Nitrogen(N) addition can significantly improve the aboveground productivity of plants. The responses of reproductive strategies to N addition remain elusive for Leymus chinensis.

Atypical centrioles during sexual reproduction [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2015
Centrioles are conserved, self-replicating, microtubule-based, 9-fold symmetric subcellular organelles that are essential for proper cell division and function. Most cells have two centrioles and maintaining this number of centrioles is important for animal development and physiology.

Characterizing Parental Concerns About Lasting Impacts of Treatment in Children With B‐Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background B‐acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B‐ALL) is the most common pediatric cancer, and while most children in high‐resource settings are cured, therapy carries risks for long‐term toxicities. Understanding parents’ concerns about these late effects is essential to guide anticipatory support and inform evolving therapeutic approaches ...

Genetic circuits that govern bisexual and unisexual reproduction in Cryptococcus neoformans. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2013
Cryptococcus neoformans is a human fungal pathogen with a defined sexual cycle. Nutrient-limiting conditions and pheromones induce a dimorphic transition from unicellular yeast to multicellular hyphae and the production of infectious spores.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Sexual Reproduction in Histoplasma Capsulatum [PDF]

open access: yesMycologia, 1967
Growth of fungi on plates of soil and hair has been found to stimulate many dermatophytes and related fungi to reproduce sexually (5, 8). In our laboratory such studies have led to the discovery of the ascigerous state of: Microsporum cookei Ajello (1)-Nannizzia cajetani Ajello (2); M. vanbreuseghemii Georg, Ajello, Friedman & Brinkman-N. grubyia Georg,
