CD207‐Positive Dendritic Cells Promote Emphysema Through CD8+ T Cell Pathway in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CD207+ dendritic cells (DCs) drive emphysema by promoting CD8⁺ T cell cytotoxicity via Birbeck granule‐dependent MHC‐I antigen presentation. This DC subset is expanded by cigarette smoke‐induced oxidative stress, which triggers granulocyte‐macrophage colony‐stimulating factor (GM‐CSF) release from airway epithelium.

Circular RNA PTPN4 Contributes to Blood‐Brain Barrier Disruption during Early Epileptogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Epileptic condition induces CircPTPN4 upregulation, which promotes ECE‐1 expression through competitive sequestration of miR‐145a‐5p. The elevated ECE‐1 catalyzes the ET‐1 production, leading to p38/MAPK pathway activation and subsequent downregulation of tight junction protein expression. This cascade results in increased BBB permeability and enhanced

Mate limitation, recurrent epidemic outbreaks, and the coexistence of sexual and asexual plant parasites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
To date, relatively few studies have focused on the effects of sex on population dynamics. Previous models found that sexual reproduction may either dampen population fluctuations or accentuate population fluctuations, depending on mating system notably.

Midbrain PAG Astrocytes Modulate Mouse Defensive and Panic‐Like Behaviors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Astrocytes in the midbrain periaqueductal gray (PAG) dynamically encode threat intensity and shape defensive action selection in mice. Real‐time Ca2+ imaging reveals robust astrocytic activation during predator odor and CO2 exposure. Aberrant astrocytic Ca2+ overactivation disrupts goal‐directed escape, biases behavior toward freezing, and induces ...

The evolving mpox threat (2022-2024): clade dynamics, immune evasion, and escalating global health challenges

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology
The 2022–2024 global Mpox outbreak, declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, marks a pivotal shift in the virus’s epidemiology, extending beyond its traditional endemic regions in Africa. This review provides a comprehensive synthesis

Hyperandrogenemia Induces Trophoblast Ferroptosis and Early Pregnancy Loss in Patients With PCOS via CMA‐Dependent FTH1 Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In PCOS patients with hyperandrogenemia, decreased ferritin heavy chain 1 (FTH1) causes Fe2⁺ overload and ferroptosis in trophoblasts. Androgens induce FTH1 protein degradation via AR‐LAMP2A‐mediated chaperone‐mediated autophagy pathway, leading to placental development disruption and early pregnancy loss. Metformin mitigates androgen‐induced placental

Sexual transmission of murine papillomavirus (MmuPV1) in Mus musculus

open access: yeseLife, 2019
Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are the most common sexually transmitted infectious agents. Because of the species specificity of HPVs, study of their natural transmission in laboratory animals is not possible.

Estimating infectious disease parameters from data on social contacts and serological status

open access: yes, 2010
In dynamic models of infectious disease transmission, typically various mixing patterns are imposed on the so-called Who-Acquires-Infection-From-Whom matrix (WAIFW).
