On "Sexual contacts and epidemic thresholds," models and inference for Sexual partnership distributions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2003
Recent work has focused attention on statistical inference for the population distribution of the number of sexual partners based on survey data. The characteristics of these distributions are of interest as components of mathematical models for the transmission dynamics of sexually-transmitted diseases (STDs).

Simulated epidemics in an empirical spatiotemporal network of 50,185 sexual contacts [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
We study implications of the dynamical and spatial contact structure between Brazilian escorts and sex-buyers for the spreading of sexually transmitted infections (STI). Despite a highly skewed degree distribution diseases spreading in this contact structure have rather well-defined epidemic thresholds.

Regulation of Sexual Behavior and Health in German Prisons and Forensic Psychiatric Hospitals

open access: yesBehavioral Sciences &the Law, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Individuals housed in prisons or forensic hospitals experience significant restrictions on their sexual rights. There is a lack of data on how sexual behavior and sexual health of institutionalized persons are managed and to what extent they are based on shared guidelines or decisions of the individual staff.

Bias in Sentencing Men for Sexual Offenses Against Minors: Male Victims Bring More Punitive Sentences Than Female Victims

open access: yesBehavioral Sciences &the Law, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Prior theoretical and empirical research examining the influence of sex on sentencing has been primarily concerned with the sex of the offender, as opposed to the victim. The present study drew on a convenience sample of males (n = 1190) in state and federal correctional facilities across the country, examining minimum sentences in relation to

Influence of network dynamics on the spread of sexually transmitted diseases [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
Network epidemiology often assumes that the relationships defining the social network of a population are static. The dynamics of relationships is only taken indirectly into account, by assuming that the relevant information to study epidemic spread is encoded in the network obtained by considering numbers of partners accumulated over periods of time ...
