Determining frequencies of fungicide resistance in Leptosphaeria maculans that render demethylation inhibitor fungicides ineffective in the field

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
As little as 1–10% of the population is needed to be resistant for demethylation inhibitor fungicides to be rendered ineffective. Following a single round of selection, the frequency increases by more than 15% with limited fitness penalty detected when no selection is present.

The epidemiology of the blackleg pathogen, Leptosphaeria maculans, impacts fungicide resistance management strategies

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Understanding how infection timing drives disease is essential for the development of fungicide resistance management strategies. For blackleg disease of canola, all infection timings can contribute to the following generation, therefore all fungicide applications have the ability to select for resistance.

Microbiome‐mediated chemical communication in insects: Implications for pest management

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Microbiome–semiochemical interactions involve the following processes: direct microbial synthesis, host gene regulation, precursor biotransformation, microbiome modulation and indirect ecological signaling. Abstract Insects rely on semiochemicals to regulate aggregation, mating, foraging, and host selection. This review synthesizes evidence that insect‐

Target‐site mutations and phenotypic failure in Myzus persicae against pyrethroids and carbamates in central Europe

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Molecular screening of 140 field‐collected Myzus persicae aphids revealed target‐site mutations L1014F, M918L, M918T, and L932F in the sodium channel and S431F in Ace2. The M918L mutation was the primary driver of high pyrethroid (cypermethrin) resistance, while S431F served as a definitive marker for carbamate (pirimicarb) resistance.

Understanding Interactions Between Sustainable Development Goals Within and Between Policy Programmes: The Case of Kenya's Dairy Sector

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Achieving Agenda 2030 depends on addressing interactions between the sustainable development goals (SDGs). In this paper, we conceptualize SDG interactions as synergies or trade‐offs, incoming or outgoing, and internal or external, and analyze how SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) interacts with other SDGs within and across policy programmes that support ...
