U ovom radu su analizirani visokonaponski SF6 prekidači - njihov nastanak, povijest, upotreba i proizvodnja. Opisan je način rukovanja SF6 plinom, sigurnost pri radu te kemijska struktura SF6 plina. Izvršena je usporedba karakteristika i mogućnosti različitih tipova visokonaponskih SF6 prekidača i to proizvođača Končar, Siemens i ABB.

U radu su objašnjeni princip rada i konstrukcija visokonaponskih SF6 prekidača. Obrađene su različite izvedbe pogonskih mehanizama. Objašnjen je način prekidanja struje, odnosno tehnika gašenja električnog luka. Obrađeni su slučajevi prekidanje pogonskih struja kao i struja kratkog spoja, te njihov utjecaj na naprezanja u elektroenergetskoj mreži.
