Angle-sensitive pixel design for wavefront sensing [PDF]
Conventional image sensors are only responsive to the intensity variation of the incoming light wave. By encoding the wavefront information into the balanced detection scheme, we demonstrate an image sensor pixel design that is capable to detect both the local intensity and wavefront information simultaneously.

Large dynamic range Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor based on adaptive spot matching
The Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor (SHWS) is widely used for high-speed, precise, and stable wavefront measurements. However, conventional SHWSs encounter a limitation in that the focused spot from each microlens is restricted to a single microlens ...

Adaptive optics with programmable Fourier-based wavefront sensors: a spatial light modulator approach to the LOOPS testbed [PDF]
Wavefront sensors encode phase information of an incoming wavefront into an intensity pattern that can be measured on a camera. Several kinds of wavefront sensors (WFS) are used in astronomical adaptive optics. Amongst them, Fourier-based wavefront sensors perform a filtering operation on the wavefront in the focal plane. The most well known example of

Into nonlinearity and beyond for Zernike-like wavefront sensors [PDF]
Context: Telescopes like the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) and the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) will be used together with extreme adaptive optics (AO) instruments to directly image Earth-like planets. The AO systems will need to perform at the fundamental limit in order to image Earth twins.

On Phase Unwrapping via Digital Wavefront Sensors [PDF]
In this paper, we derive a new class of methods for the classic 2D phase unwrapping problem of recovering a phase function from its wrapped form. For this, we consider the wrapped phase as a wavefront aberration in an optical system, and use reconstruction methods for (digital) wavefront sensors for its recovery.

RISTRETTO: a comparative performance analysis of the unmodulated Pyramid wavefront sensor and the Zernike wavefront sensor [PDF]
The RISTRETTO instrument, a proposed visible high-contrast, high-resolution spectrograph for the VLT, has the primary science goal of detecting reflected light from nearby exoplanets and characterizing their atmospheres. Specifically, it aims to atmospherically characterize Proxima b, our closest temperate rocky exoplanet, located $37 mas$ from its ...
