Quantifying the benefits of parks for mitigating heat, air and noise pollution to inform climate-resilient planning

open access: yesCity and Environment Interactions
Urban parks play a key role in cooling cities and influencing local air quality by providing areas of reduced exposure to pollution sources, alongside local pollution deposition and dispersion effects.

Chemical State Detection and Charge Transfer in Complex Oxide Heterostructures via In Situ Auger Electron Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ Auger Electron Spectroscopy resolves oxidation states with high fidelity during the pulsed laser deposition of multivalent perovskite manganate and vanadate heterostructures. The chemical‐state signature is carried by the valence‐electron population of the transition‐metal cation, read out through the relative intensities of Auger fine ...

Effects of Different Drying Methods on the Quality of Amomum villosum Lour. Based on GC-MS and Chemometric Techniques

open access: yesFoods
Postharvest processing plays an important role in improving the quality and storage stability of mature fresh Amomum villosum Lour. (A. villosum). We investigated the effects of seven common drying methods (electric baking drying (EBD), heat pump drying,

Evaluation of Morphometric Factors on the Distribution of Debris: A Case Study on the Attica Ripples on the South of Paveh- Kermanshah Province, Iran [PDF]

open access: yesجغرافیا و پایداری محیط, 2018
Scree slopes are the evidence of rock behavior against the fluctuations of temperature and humidity. The goal is to determine the contribution of geomorphologic and solar radiation factors to the distribution of destructive evidence.

Electrode and Microstructure Dependence of Oxygen Diffusion in Ferroelectric Hafnium Zirconium Oxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Significant nanoscale oxygen diffusion coefficient variations are measured in ferroelectric hafnium zirconium oxide films with grain boundaries and electrode interfaces exhibiting values 104 times larger than the grain cores. Overall coefficients are 10X larger for films prepared with metal nitride electrodes compared to refractory metals. New insights

Bio‐Inspired Synthesis of Macroporous Single Crystal Particles as Scattering Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A general strategy is presented that delivers unique, single‐crystal microparticles that combine submicron macroporosity and uniform particle shapes. A bioinspired approach is used to occlude three distinct types of additives – polystyrene microspheres, polymer vesicles and amino acids – within calcite single crystals, and subsequent thermal annealing ...

Spatial distribution and regeneration strategies of the main forest species on Robinson Crusoe Island Distribución espacial y estrategias de regeneración de las principales especies forestales de la Isla Robinson Crusoe

open access: yesRevista Chilena de Historia Natural, 2010
We describe the structure of the endemic Robinson Crusoe Island forest. We analyse the regeneration strategies of the trees: Myrceugenia fernandeziana, Fagara mayu, and Drimys confertifolia. Inventories were taken on nearly intact montane forest remnants
