Shade and Cd Conditions Strongly Impact the Physiological Responses of Purple Perilla
Plant metabolic regulation is an important strategy for dealing with abiotic stress, which can initiate dramatic changes in metabolite profiles. Metabolomic studies have been extensively used to reveal the responses of plants to abiotic stress, but ...

The interacting effects of different environmental cues in determining a plant's phenotype and performance are poorly understood aspects of phenotypic plasticity. We examined the interacting effects of shading and mechanical stress (MS) on growth, reproduction, and mechanical stability.

Development of a novel dental shade determination application [PDF]
Determining the shade of dental materials is a challenging requirement for the restorative dentist. Improper shade selection is the second cause for laboratory remakes, resulting in inefficiency and additional cost, and unnecessary stress for the ...

Effects of post-fire logging on forest surface air temperatures in the Siskiyou Mountains, Oregon, USA [PDF]
Following stand-replacing wildfire, post-fire (salvage) logging of fire-killed trees is a widely implemented management practice in many forest types. A common hypothesis is that removal of fire-killed trees increases surface temperatures due to loss of ...

Shading for water stress mitigation in Copaifera langsdorffii Desf. seedlings
Abstract In this study, we hypothesized that Copaifera langsdorffii Desf. seedlings do not tolerate cultivation under water deficit, but shading could minimize stressor effects of water shortage and enable fast antioxidant responses, maintaining high photosynthetic rates and favoring stressed plant recovery.

Measurement of sap flow dynamics through the tomato peduncle using a non-invasive sensor based on the heat field deformation method [PDF]
Recent contradicting evidence on the contributions of xylem and phloem to tomato fruit growth highlights the need for a more thorough insight into the dynamics of sap flow through the tomato peduncle. In fact, knowledge on sap flow dynamics through small

Risk stratification by stress echocardiography: a whiter shade of pale? [PDF]
Please see page 205 for the article by Moreno et al. (doi: 10.1016/j.euje.2003.11.008) to which this editorial pertains. In this issue of the Journal, Moreno et al. show the high negative predictive value of a negative dipyridamole stress echocardiogram in medically stabilized unstable angina.1 The negative predictive value was, however, lower in ...
