Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Longitudinal genome‐wide aneuploidy measurements in circulating cell‐free DNA to predict lack of benefit from pembrolizumab in patients with metastatic urothelial cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Many patients with urothelial cancer do not benefit from treatment with pembrolizumab, while at risk of severe side effects. Changes in the levels of circulating tumor DNA early during treatment, measured by a simple and affordable assay that can be easily implemented in the clinic, can be used as a prognostic tool to identify these patients.

Shade and Cd Conditions Strongly Impact the Physiological Responses of Purple Perilla

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2022
Plant metabolic regulation is an important strategy for dealing with abiotic stress, which can initiate dramatic changes in metabolite profiles. Metabolomic studies have been extensively used to reveal the responses of plants to abiotic stress, but ...

Pharmacological chromatin remodeling enhances response to estrogen therapy in ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Estrogen therapy elicits clinical benefit in ~ 30% of patients with endocrine‐resistant estrogen receptor (ER)‐positive breast cancer. Based on findings that ER transcriptional activation underlies response to estrogen therapy, we tested the effects of epigenetic dysregulation via pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACi).

Development of a novel dental shade determination application [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Dental Research, Dental Clinics, Dental Prospects, 2020
Determining the shade of dental materials is a challenging requirement for the restorative dentist. Improper shade selection is the second cause for laboratory remakes, resulting in inefficiency and additional cost, and unnecessary stress for the ...

Automated FRAP microscopy for high‐throughput analysis of protein dynamics in chromatin organization and transcription

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
RoboMic is an automated confocal microscopy pipeline for high‐throughput functional imaging in living cells. Demonstrated with fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP), it integrates AI‐driven nuclear segmentation, ROI selection, bleaching, and analysis.

Shade tolerance in wheat is related to photosynthetic limitation and morphological and physiological acclimations

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Low solar irradiance reaching the canopy due to fog and heavy haze is a significant yield-limiting factor worldwide. However, how plants adapt to shade stress and the mechanisms underlying the reduction in leaf photosynthetic capacity and grain yield ...

Effects of shade stress on morphophysiology and rhizosphere soil bacterial communities of two contrasting shade-tolerant turfgrasses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Abstract Background: Perturbations in the abiotic stress directly or indirectly affect plants and root-associated microbial communities. Shade stress presents one of the major abiotic limitations for turfgrass growth, as light availability is severely reduced under a leaf canopy.

Evolution‐guided yeast complementation reveals functional differences in human PSPH variants

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Ancient genomes can help guide which human genetic variants are tested experimentally. This study applies that idea to PSPH, a gene involved in serine biosynthesis, and uses high‐throughput yeast complementation to compare variant function. The findings reveal measurable differences among selected alleles and illustrate the value of evolution‐guided ...

Growth and stoichiometry of Pinus yunnanensis seedlings in response to shade and drought interaction

open access: yesGuangxi Zhiwu
In order to investigate the growth of Pinus yunnanensis seedlings and the stoichiometric characteristics of carbon(C), nitrogen(N)and phosphorus(P)of different organs in response to shade and drought treatments and the adaptive mechanism, the growth of P.
