Variable Stiffness Flexure Structures Enabled by Phase‐Change Gallium and Adhesive Interfacial Locking for Soft Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A flexure‐based variable stiffness structure is developed by integrating phase‐change modulation and adhesive interfacial locking of gallium. The design enables a wide stiffness variability, transitioning from soft, flexible behavior to rigid, load‐supporting performance.

Tree shade mitigates stress and enhances chickpea productivity: Insights from an Emblica officinalis-based agroforestry system in semi-arid shallow Basaltic Deccan Plateau, India

open access: yesTrees, Forests and People
Agroforestry influences microclimate and resource availability, particularly light, soil moisture, and nutrients, thus favouring the often growth of associated crops.

Shoot Production and Flavonoid Content of Waterleaf on Shading Stress

open access: yesJurnal Hortikultura Indonesia, 2019
Kolesom (Talinum triangulare (Jacq.)

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Screening shade-tolerant centipedegrass genotypes: Physiological and transcriptomic insights into shade adaptation mechanisms

open access: yesGrass Research
Shade stress is a major constraint for the growth and performance of turfgrass in urban environments. To investigate shade tolerance mechanisms in centipedegrass (Eremochloa ophiuroides), we evaluated 16 genotypes under 66% and 99% shading for 18 d. CP11

Weak stem under shade reveals the lignin reduction behavior

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2019
Shades caused by neighboring tall plants in intercropping systems and weak sunlight are constraints in yield optimization. Shade influences many aspects of plant growth and development, leading to weak stems and susceptibility to lodging.

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Effect of shade on the leaflet morphology of wild Pistachio sapling under drought stress [PDF]

open access: yesمجله جنگل ایران, 2019
In this research, the effects of drought stress and shade on leaflet morphology of wild pistachio (Pistacia atlantica subsp. Mutica) saplings were evaluated in Albroz Research center (Karaj, Iran) in the summer of 2014.

Microstructure‐Controlled Crack Propagation and Fracture Resistance in MoSiBTiC Alloy Revealed by Multiscale Extended Finite Element Method Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...

iTRAQ protein profile analysis of soybean stems reveals new aspects critical for lodging in intercropping systems

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2019
Soybean is often intercropped with maize, sugarcane, and sorghum. Because of the shade coming from the latter, the soybean stem lodging is often a very serious problem in intercropping systems.
