Shades of consciousness

Minds and Machines, 1996
It has been argued that consciousness might be what differentiates human from machine mentality. What then is consciousness? We discuss consciousness, particularly perception accounts of consciousness. It is argued that perception and consciousness are distinct. Armstrong's (1980) account of consciousness is rejected.

Shade trees

Proceedings of the 11th annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques, 1984
Shading is an important part of computer imagery, but shaders have been based on fixed models to which all surfaces must conform. As computer imagery becomes more sophisticated, surfaces have more complex shading characteristics and thus require a less rigid shading model.

Shade recovered

ACM SIGGRAPH 2009 Computer Animation Festival, 2009
"Shade Recovered" undertakes to make the experience of listening to Michaela Eremiasova's music visible, without applying figurative means. It uses practically no figure/ground differentiation, no habitual narrative techniques. Its abstract images evoke the feelings experienced by the listener, making them visible.

Plasticine shading

Proceedings of the 11th European Conference on Visual Media Production, 2014
Plasticine is a core material in the production of stop-motion animation. In some situations it is valuable to use computer simulation techniques to generate objects that appear to be made of plasticine. In order to render this material accurately, we present a new shading model which is based on the true physical properties of plasticine. We show that

Shade from shading

2009
The use of both computer generated images and real video images can be made much more effective by merging them, ideally in real time. This motivation is at the basis of Computer Augmented Reality (CAR), which involves both elements of computer graphics and computer vision.

Shade avoidance

New Phytologist, 2008
SummaryThe threat to plant survival presented by light limitation has driven the evolution of highly plastic adaptive strategies to either tolerate or avoid shading by neighbouring vegetation. When subject to vegetational shading, plants are exposed to a variety of informational signals, which include altered light quality and a reduction in light ...

Sketch and shade

Proceedings of the Symposium on Non-Photorealistic Animation and Rendering, 2017
We present a drawing assistant for sketching and for assisting users in shading a hand drawn sketch. The augmented reality based system uses a sketch made by a professional and uses it to help inexperienced users to do sketching and shading. The input image is converted to a set of points based on simple heuristics for providing a "connect the dots ...

Shade trees and shade management in cardamom

Journal of Non-Timber Forest Products, 2010
Small Cardamom is a pseophytic cash crop grown on plantation scale under the shade of natural evergreen forests of Western Ghats of South India. The shade canopy provides suitable environment by maintaining humidity and evaporation at suitable level. Trees belonging to 32 families of Angiosperms constitute the major tree flora in the Cardamom hills of ...
