Shakeout or Shakedown?

2002
The Telecommunications Act of 1996, hereafter “the Act,” created widespread enthusiasm regarding business opportunities for new entrants into the telecommunications industry, particularly at the local exchange level. At the time of its passage, the Act was widely heralded by politicians to be the policy instrument needed to promote competition and ...

Shakedown in the Shaky Isles

Labor Studies Journal, 2012
In late 2010, the New Zealand Parliament passed legislation that offers film industry employers an option to effectively immunize the New Zealand film industry against union activity and employment regulations, by simply insisting on engaging workers as independent contractors, regardless of their real status.

Shakedown analysis of plates

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1985
A numerical approach for shakedown analysis of laterally loaded elasto- plastic plates is presented. The normal moment criterion and the Tresca criterion are considered. Shakedown criteria are applied at a set of nodes distributed throughout the plate.

Shakedown of porous materials

International Journal of Plasticity, 2017
Abstract The paper is devoted to the determination of shakedown limit states of porous ductile materials under cyclically repeated loads by considering the hollow sphere model with von Mises matrix. We adopt Melan's statical approach based on time-independent residual stress fields.

Shakedown Analysis for Trusses and Frames

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1997
The kinematic method is applied to study the shakedown behavior of certain bar structures subjected to variable loads. For trusses, the possible elastic instability of a thin bar in compression is taken into account. In the case of frames, the possibility of formulating the problem in generalized variables is explored.

Plastic Shakedown Analysis

1990
Structures of mechanical engineering for instance power plants, reactors, pressure vessels, etc. or civil engineering for instance, frames, grids, bridge decks etc. are exposed to variable loading particularly cyclic or repeated loading. In these situations, classical limit analysis which assumes proportional loading are out of question because the ...

On Upper Bounds to Shakedown Loads

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1979
AbstractPaper derives the general shakedown condition from kinematical considerations and shows that solutions of the incremental collapse problem, together with the alternating plasticity condition derived, constitute exact shakedown loads.

The shakedown.

Harvard business review, 2005
Customer Strategy Solutions, a California-based developer of order-fulfillment systems, is facing a shakedown. Six months after the firm's CEO, Pavlo Zhuk, set up a software development center in Kiev, local bureaucrats say the company hasn't filed all the tax schedules it should have.

On the Conditions to Prevent Plastic Shakedown of Structures: Part II—The Plastic Shakedown Limit Load

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1993
Following the results of a companion paper, the concept of plastic shakedown limit load is introduced for an elastic-perfectly plastic material structure subjected to combined cyclic (mechanical and/or kinematical) loads and steady (mechanical) load. Static and kinematic approaches are available for the computation of this load, in perfect analogy with
