On kinematic method in shakedown theory: I. Duality of extremum problems
International Journal of Plasticity, 1994Abstract A kinematic method for determining the safety factor in shakedown problems is developed. An upper bound kinematic functional is defined on a set of kinematically admissible time-independent velocity fields. Every value of the functional is an upper bound for the safety factor.

PREDICTION OF THE FATIGUE THRESHOLD FOR A CRACKED BODY USING SHAKEDOWN THEORY
Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 1995Abstract— In this paper, the fatigue threshold ΔKth of a cracked body is studied. Unlike other approaches given in the literature, the shakedown theory is used for predicting ΔKth. A crack is considered as a sharp notch, the radius of which, at the threshold stress level, is a material constant.

Dynamic shakedown theory allowing for second order geometric effects
Meccanica, 1975Two necessary and sufficient conditions for shakedown in a structure subjected to given histories of external loads and imposed strains, in the presence of significant inertia and damping effects, are established. Structural discretization and piecewise linearization of constitutive laws are adopted. This permits to consider several hardening materials

An Extended Shakedown Theory for Structures That Suffer Cyclic Thermal Loading, Part 1: Theory
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1985The paper describes an extension of classical shakedown theory for structural problems involving constant mechanical loads and cyclic variations in temperature. The objective of the theory is to provide a simple means of distinguishing between circumstances where thermal cycling can cause structural ratchetting for small or zero mechanical loads from ...

Abstract This paper presents a finite element program, for the modelling of rutting of flexible pavements. In its present version, the program incorporates a permanent deformation model for unbound granular materials based on the concept of the shakedown theory developed by Zarka for metallic structures under cyclic loadings and has been used to ...

Shakedown theory for elastic plastic kinematic hardening bodies
International Journal of Plasticity, 2007Abstract Shakedown static and kinematic theorems for elastic–plastic (generally nonlinear) kinematic hardening solids are derived in classical (path-independence) spirit with new constructions. The generally plastic-deformation-history-dependent hardening curve is assumed to be limited by the initial yield stress and ultimate yield strength, and to ...

Influence of material properties on analysis and design of pavements using shakedown theory
Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University (Science), 2010Currently, traditional analysis and design methods are unreasonable in evaluating the performance and safety of pavements. The characteristic of shakedown theory lends itself particularly to the analysis of pavements. Based on the lower bound shakedown theory, a simple and practical procedure for shakedown analysis of pavements has been developed using

On the Fictitious Yield Surface in the Plastic Shakedown Theory
1998A structure or structural components which operate (mainly within framework of nuclear power plant applications) in condition of plastic shakedown, have been the subject of extensive study. A suitable description of yield violation for the plastic shakedown behavior of structures is a fictitious yield surface which has been introduced by Polizzotto ...
