Development and Application of a Simplified Method for Preliminary Assessment of Enhanced Oil Recovery and CO2 Geological Storage in Petroleum Reservoirs

open access: yesGreenhouse Gases: Science and Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Geologic carbon storage in depleted oil and gas reservoirs is a key CO2 mitigation strategy, utilizing existing infrastructure such as injection wells and pipelines, while capitalizing on well‐characterized subsurface properties. This article introduces a versatile methodology designed to estimate critical parameters, including the number of ...

Shale Gas Development and Housing Value in the United Kingdom: Impact of the 13th Onshore Licensing, 2008 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
While shale gas is a prospective energy source, it is known to bring environmental deficits to the drilling neighborhood. Because of such concerns, property values fluctuate upon the possibility of shale gas fracturing.

Origins of the Pangkaimen Au Deposit in the Northern Great Xing'an Range, China: Evidence From Geochronological, Geochemical, Fluid Inclusion, and H–O–S–Pb Isotope Data

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
The Pangkaimen Au–Ag deposits belong to the epithermal Au deposits, which are of great significance for guiding the research and development of this type of gold deposit. Metallogenic model diagram of Pangkaimen Au–Ag deposit. ABSTRACT The gold (Au) metallogenic belt in the northern Great Xing'an Range is characterised by the wide occurrence of the ...

Pre-stack seismic density inversion in marine shale reservoirs in the southern Jiaoshiba area, Sichuan Basin, China

open access: yesPetroleum Science, 2018
For a typical marine shale reservoir in the Jiaoshiba area, Sichuan Basin of China, P-impedance is sensitive for identifying lithology but not suitable for indicating good shale reservoirs.

Fracking for Shale Gas: Planning Policy and Practice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Since the turn of the century the rapid exploitation of shale gas by hydraulic fracturing, popularly known as fracking, has transformed the energy landscape within the US. More recently potential large shale gas reserves have been identified within parts

Evidence From Microscopy and U–Pb Geochronology as a Clue to the Influence of the Cretaceous Magmatism in the Diagenesis of Pre‐Salt Carbonate Reservoirs in the Santos Basin (Brazil)

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
Carbonates from Santos Basin revealed U–Pb ages correlated with basalt ages (A), suggesting that they were formed during magmatic events. These events placed hot CO2 in the reservoir, which, when mixed with carbonate‐rich cold water (B), led to thermal convection, enabling the formation of the U contained in the carbonates.

From boom to bust? A critical look at US shale gas projections [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
US shale gas production is generally expected to continue its fast rise. However, a cautious evaluation is needed. Shale gas resource estimates are potentially overoptimistic and it is uncertain to which extent they can be produced economically. Moreover,
