CSEM Revisited - Shales and Reservoir Monitoring

Proceedings, 2017
Summary We study application of controlled-surface EM in shale/unconventional reservoirs and show feasibility of surface-to-surface and borehole-to-surface EM for enhanced oil recovery and reservoir depletion monitoring.

Adsorption behaviour of shale gas reservoirs

International Journal of Oil, Gas and Coal Technology, 2018
Experimental adsorption measurements for one shale sample were conducted at 25°C, 50°C and 75°C up to 2,000 psia by using pure methane (CH4) and pure carbon dioxide (CO2) to understand the behaviour of CH4 and CO2 adsorption on shales. The effects of temperature and pressure on CH4 and CO2 adsorption on the shale sample were observed.

Clay stabilization in sandstone reservoirs and the perspectives for shale reservoirs

Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, 2020
This study presents a comprehensive review of clay stabilizers and updated understandings of their mechanisms on stabilizing clay minerals in improved and enhanced oil recovery (IOR and EOR) applications. First, formation damage mechanisms related to clays in conventional sandstone and shale reservoirs are briefly introduced.

Workflows for Shale Gas Reservoir Characterization

Proceedings, 2013
As shale gas resources have emerged as a viable energy source, their characterization has gained significance. The organic content in these shales which are measured by their TOC ratings, influence the compressional and shear velocities as well as the density and anisotropy in these formations.

Reservoir modeling of shale formations

Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering, 2013
Abstract Economic production from shale has been intimately tied to hydraulic fracturing since the first signs of success in Barnet Shale in the late 90s. The introduction of horizontal wells and multi-stage hydraulic fracturing was met by a huge move by operators toward developing shale formations that were mainly ignored in the past.

Fractured Shale Reservoirs of California

AAPG Bulletin, 1953
In California there are two regions in which fractured sedimentary rocks form important oil reservoirs. They are the Santa Maria Coastal district and the southwestern part of the San Joaquin Valley. This type of reservoir rock is limited essentially to fractured chert and siliceous shale of upper Miocene age.

Shale Full Field Reservoir Modeling

2017
A quick look at the history of reservoir simulation and modeling indicates that developing full field models (where all the wells in the asset are modeled together as one comprehensive entity) is the common practice for almost all prolific assets.

Fractureability evaluation of shale gas reservoirs

Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects, 2019
There are abundant shale gas resources in the Lower Paleozoic marine organic shale strata of the upper Yangtze region, South China.

Seismic reservoir characterization in Marcellus shale

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2011, 2011
The Middle Devonian Marcellus shale that extends from Ohio and West Virginia, northeast into Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York, is believed to hold in excess of a thousand trillion ft of natural gas. High-quality surface seismic data and top-of-the-line processing are essential to characterize these reservoirs and the overburden formations for safe ...

Integrated Shale Gas Reservoir Modeling

2011
Gas production from shale reservoirs has led to an era with a new source for energy. Like many other exploration and production activities, uncertainty and risk in developing shale gas reservoirs are quite significant. Although many reservoir characterization efforts have been made to help understand shale gas reservoirs, a systematic reservoir ...
