A Comprehensive Reservoir Evaluation of a Shale Reservoir—The New Albany Shale

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2002
Abstract This paper presents the results of a comprehensive reservoir evaluation of the New Albany shale reservoir in northern Kentucky and southern Indiana and Illinois. Although initially compared with the Antrim shale in the Michigan basin, the New Albany shale has been found to have very different production characteristics than the ...

Coalbed- and Shale-Gas Reservoirs

Journal of Petroleum Technology, 2008
Distinguished Author Series articles are general, descriptive representations that summarize the state of the art in an area of technology by describing recent developments for readers who are not specialists in the topics discussed. Written by individuals recognized as experts in the area, these articles provide key references to more definitive work ...

Inversion of reservoir parameters in shale reservoir with inclined fractures

Global Meeting Abstracts, 2022
This paper, we introduce a parameter inversion method for shale reservoir with a set of inclined fractures. Firstly, a reflection coefficient equation including three attibutes (A: the impedance, B: shear modulus proportional to an anellipticity parameter and C: horizontal P-wave phase velocity) and fracture weaknesses is derived.

Clay stabilization in sandstone reservoirs and the perspectives for shale reservoirs

Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, 2020
This study presents a comprehensive review of clay stabilizers and updated understandings of their mechanisms on stabilizing clay minerals in improved and enhanced oil recovery (IOR and EOR) applications. First, formation damage mechanisms related to clays in conventional sandstone and shale reservoirs are briefly introduced.

Characteristics of Shale Reservoirs

2016
Shale gas reservoir shows several features dissimilar with conventional reservoir which make it difficult to understand behavior of it. In this chapter, these features such as natural fracture system, adsorption/desorption of gas, diffusion in nanopores, non-Darcy flow, and stress-dependent compaction are presented.

Unconventional Measures for Shale Reservoirs

Journal of Petroleum Technology, 2016
Unconventional Measures for Shale Reservoirs Stephen Rassenfoss, JPT Emerging Technology Senior Editor One of the biggest ways to lower the cost of production from shale would be to identify zones that are productive, or not, before fracturing them.

Reservoir Modeling and Production Evaluation in Shale-Gas Reservoirs

International Petroleum Technology Conference, 2009
Abstract This paper examines issues with forecasting and evaluating production from unconventional gas reservoirs, such as the Barnett Shale. How can reservoirs be commercial with matrix permeability measured not in milli-Darcy or even micro-Darcy (10-3 mD), but as low as 10–100 nano-Darcy (10-6 mD)?

Fractured Shale Reservoirs of California

AAPG Bulletin, 1953
ABSTRACT In California there are two regions in which fractured sedimentary rocks form important oil reservoirs. They are the Santa Maria Coastal district and the southwestern part of the San Joaquin Valley. This type of reservoir rock is limited essentially to fractured chert and siliceous shale of upper Miocene age.

Reservoir modeling of shale formations

Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering, 2013
Abstract Economic production from shale has been intimately tied to hydraulic fracturing since the first signs of success in Barnet Shale in the late 90s. The introduction of horizontal wells and multi-stage hydraulic fracturing was met by a huge move by operators toward developing shale formations that were mainly ignored in the past.

Impediments to Refracturing Success in Shale Reservoirs

SPE Middle East Oil & Gas Show and Conference, 2021
Abstract Stimulations in early horizontal wells in most shale plays are characterized by few and widely spaced perforation clusters, and low amounts of injected fracturing fluid and proppant. Low recovery from these wells has motivated refracturing although outcomes have been interpreted to range from successful to minimal impact based ...
