Ice‐Droplet and Damaged Elastomer Interfaces: A Closer Look at Contact and Morphology of Anti‐Icing Coatings Using Cryo‐FIB‐SEM

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Cryo‐FIB‐SEM is used to mill and image the interfaces of ice droplets frozen on PDMS coatings damaged by abrasion and cutting. Both high‐ and low‐real contact areas are revealed for the first time, with interpenetration dependent on the shape of asperities on the damaged surface.

Evolutionary morphology of the haplorhine hamate

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Primates adopt a variety of hand postures during an impressive diversity of locomotor and manipulative behaviors. Morphological research has found that elements of the hand skeleton, such as the hamate, hold key information for inferring hand use and locomotor kinematics in extinct species.

Optimizing Strategies for Non‐Invasive Prospection of Settlements in the Intertidal Zone: A Case Study From the Centre of the Drowned Medieval Village of Tolsende (Scheldt Estuary, the Netherlands)

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Medieval and early modern drowned villages in the intertidal zone of the Scheldt estuary (the Netherlands) constitute intriguing yet largely understudied components of north‐western Europe's underwater cultural heritage. Despite their high archaeological potential as time capsules of past settlement landscapes, research has remained limited ...

Scanning Parametric Sediment Echosounder as Tool for Underwater Archaeological Prospection

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Underwater cultural heritage 3D prospection techniques, especially for remains that are partly buried in the ground, are only very rarely available and often can only be applied with considerable technical effort. To overcome this limitation, we evaluate a methodological adaption of widely used and available single channel parametric sediment ...

Dark Heritage Prospection ‐ Mapping the Treblinka II Extermination Camp Using a Magnetometer Survey and Integrated Archival Sources

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The history of Nazi German extermination camps has, until recently, relied primarily on eyewitness testimony. Very few official documents detailing the facilities survived the war due to the special operation ‘Sonderaktion 1005’, dedicated to hiding their existence and extent.

Potential for Carotenoid and Other Bioproducts Production by a Brazilian Dunaliella salina Isolate Using a High Photon Flux Density Strategy

open access: yesBiotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Dunaliella species are among the most significant biological sources of carotenoids, notably beta‐carotene. Given that chemical synthesis offers a more cost‐effective alternative to biotechnological cultivation, optimizing production strategies is essential for economic viability.
