The 2025 Kamchatka Earthquake and Tsunami: Cascading Impacts and Risks to Japan

ABSTRACT On July 29th, 2025, a large earthquake (Mw 8.8) occurred near the Kamchatka Peninsula. This event caused a tsunami that reached Japan's Pacific coast, even though the source was far away. In this study, we analyze the characteristics of earthquakes and tsunamis and discuss how they relate to the recurrence possibility and risk in Japan.

Dominance of Picea glehnii in the Serpentine Forests of Hokkaido: Perspectives for an Ecological Understanding

We question why Picea glehnii dominates serpentine forests in Hokkaido. Spatial variability of denudation rates and transient landscape adjustment in low‐deforming mountains (the Strengbach catchment, Vosges Mountains, France)

Erosion across the landscape is described at first order by a limited number (nine) of homogenous geomorphological and lithological domains. Using a dense set of basin wide denudation rates, it is possible to retrieve the contribution of each litho‐morpho‐domains as a function of their respective surface.
