Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

Modification of the convexity prior but not the light-from-above prior in visual search with shaded objects

open access: yes, 2007
Studies of visual search performance with shaded stimuli, in which the target is rotated by 180º relative to the distracters, typically demonstrate more efficient performance in stimuli with vertical compared to horizontal shading gradients. In addition,

Shape From Shading [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Shape From Shading is the process of computing the threedimensional shape of a surface from one image of that surface. Contrary to most of the other three-dimensional reconstruction problems (for example, stereo and photometric stereo), in the Shape From

OPTIMIZATION OF DEM INTERPOLATION

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, 2010
Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) are simply regular grids of elevation measurements over the land surface. DEMs are mainly extracted by applying the technique of stereo measurements on images available from photogrammetry and remote sensing.

Pharmacological chromatin remodeling enhances response to estrogen therapy in ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Estrogen therapy elicits clinical benefit in ~ 30% of patients with endocrine‐resistant estrogen receptor (ER)‐positive breast cancer. Based on findings that ER transcriptional activation underlies response to estrogen therapy, we tested the effects of epigenetic dysregulation via pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACi).

A Novel Approach to Droplet’s 3D Shape Recovery Based on Mask R-CNN and Improved Lambert–Phong Model

open access: yesMicromachines, 2018
Aiming at the demand for extracting the three-dimensional shapes of droplets in microelectronic packaging, life science, and some related fields, as well as the problems of complex calculation and slow running speed of conventional shape from shading ...

Camouflage Using Surface Disruption: The Importance of Corners Versus Edges

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Disruptive colouration is a common mode of camouflage used by predators and prey to conceal their body contours. However, it is unclear how disruptive colouration hinders the detection and recognition of three‐dimensional (3D) body shapes.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐
