Shape-inspired architectural design
Proceedings of the ACM SIGGRAPH Symposium on Interactive 3D Graphics and Games, 2018We introduce a method to design architectural buildings that are inspired by shapes of non-architectural forms. The user inputs a few binary images, each providing an indicative shape for the building from a different viewpoint. A discrete visual hull corresponding to each binary image is generated. A voxel model is then constructed by intersecting the

Although many attempts have been made to enable creative and effective design activities using a computer, many design activities depend on the designer’s personal ability and are learned through interpersonal communication. These limitations are thought to be due to the fact that the knowledge we use does not cover the entire design process ...

Optimal shape design for divertors
International Journal of Computational Science and Engineering, 2014Owing to the complex physics of the plasma edge, numerical simulation tools are indispensable for the evaluation of novel divertor concepts. Simulation-based divertor design is computationally extremely expensive, however, not in the least due to the large number of design variables.

A shape metric for design-for-assembly
Proceedings 1992 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2003The authors introduce a quantitative shape metric for planar parts, called feedability, based on a stochastic parts feeding algorithm reported by K. Goldberg et al., (1990,1991). Although feedability is only one possible metric for design-for-assembly (DFA), it relates one aspect of assembly cost directly to part geometry.
