Sharpening the Sharpened Romberg.

SPUMS journal, 1999
The Sharpened Romberg Test (SRT) is a test of balance commonly used in Diving Medicine. Interpretation of an abnormal test can be confounded by several factors. This study was conducted to further evaluate the usefulness of the SRT. In the first part of the study, naval and civilian volunteers in a Naval Base were recruited as subjects.

Improved filter sharpening

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 1995
We propose a natural extension to Kaiser-Hamming (1977) filter sharpening methods to allow for a piecewise linear desired amplitude change function (ACF). The primary advantages of the proposed ACF over piecewise constant ACFs is that we obtain better control of selective improvement (or degradation) in either the passband or stopband or both, and we ...

Sharpening the anaphase switch

Biochemical Society Transactions, 2015
The segregation of sister chromatids during mitosis is one of the most easily visualized, yet most remarkable, events during the life cycle of a cell. The accuracy of this process is essential to maintain ploidy during cell duplication. Over the past 20 years, substantial progress has been made in identifying components of both the kinetochore and the ...

Adaptive sharpening of photos

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
Sharpness is an important attribute that contributes to the overall impression of printed photo quality. Often it is impossible to estimate sharpness prior to printing. Sometimes it is a complex task for a consumer to obtain accurate sharpening results by editing a photo on a computer. The novel method of adaptive sharpening aimed for photo printers

Observer-dependent sharpening

Proceedings. International Conference on Image Processing, 2003
Image quality evaluation by human observers is heavily subjective in nature. Individual observers judge the image quality differently. In previous works, an observer-dependent system for subjective image enhancement, which is based on fusion of different algorithms, was introduced.

Sharpening the adequacy of a characterisation

2008
In this paper, we propose a characterisation for the German particle gerade (just/ precisely) that tries to capture the intuition of "emphatic assertion of identity" (König 1991 a,b) in terms of an operation of comparison. Stated informally, gerade helps to "sharpen the perception of adequacy" of the description expressed by the associate.

Sharpening on Mircea's inequality

2007
Summary: In this paper, by using one of Chen's theorems, combining the method of mathematical analysis and nonlinear algebraic equation system, Mircea's inequality involving the area, circumradius and inradius of the triangle is sharpened.
