Mixing in shear thinning fluids [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2012
In the present study, a CFD characterization of the flow generated by curved-blade impellers in a cylindrical unbaffled vessel was carried out. The tank diameter was 300 mm, with a flat bottom. The liquid height was equal to the vessel diameter. The fluids simulated have a shear thinning behavior.

Effect of Rheological Properties of Liquid Foods on Heat Sterilization Process in Taylor-couette Flow Apparatus

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2019
This study numerically investigates the effect of rheological liquid foods on heat sterilization process using Taylor–Couette flow sterilizer (TCFS). As model thermal processing, the destruction of Clostridium botulinum and thiamine was selected.

Flow and hydrodynamic shear stress inside a printing needle during biofabrication.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
We present a simple but accurate algorithm to calculate the flow and shear rate profile of shear thinning fluids, as typically used in biofabrication applications, with an arbitrary viscosity-shear rate relationship in a cylindrical nozzle.

Universal mechanism of shear thinning in supercooled liquids

open access: yesCommunications Physics
Soft glassy materials experience a significant reduction in viscosity η when subjected to shear flow, known as shear thinning. This phenomenon is characterized by a power-law scaling of η with the shear rate $$\dot{\gamma }$$ γ ° , $$\eta \propto {\dot ...

Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the

Rheology of Emulsions Thickened by Starch Nanoparticles

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
The rheology of oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions thickened by starch nanoparticles is investigated here. The starch nanoparticle concentration is varied from 0 to 25 wt% based on the matrix aqueous phase. The oil concentration is varied from 0 to 65 wt%.

Taylor-vortex flow in shear-thinning fluids [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2019
This paper deals with the Taylor-Couette flow of shear-thinning fluids. It focuses on the first principles understanding of the influence of the viscosity stratification and the nonlinear variation of the effective viscosity μ with the shear rate γ[over ̇] on the flow structure in the Taylor-vortex flow regime.

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

An improved equivalent viscosity model for the bubbly oil under high shear rate

open access: yesFriction
Shear-thinning effect of pure oil and distribution of bubble size are essential factors affecting the viscosity of bubbly oil. This study aims to establish an improved equivalent viscosity model for bubbly oil by considering the shear-thinning effect and
