Thermal convection of viscoelastic shear-thinning fluids
Fluid Dynamics Research, 2016The Rayleigh–Benard convection for non-Newtonian fluids possessing both viscoelastic and shear-thinning behaviours is examined. The Phan-Thien–Tanner (PTT) constitutive equation is implemented to model the non-Newtonian character of the fluid. It is found that while the shear-thinning and viscoelastic effects could annihilate one another for the steady

Particle-wall collision in shear thinning fluids
Experiments in Fluids, 2005The present study deals with the measurements of the impact wi and rebound wr velocities of steel particles in different fluids colliding with a rigid wall. The results are presented in terms of the coefficient of restitution e=wr/wi as a function of the Stokes number (ratio between the particle inertia and the viscous forces).

The Dean instability for shear-thinning fluids
Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, 2013We investigate the Dean instability for a generalised Newtonian fluid which satisfies an approximately power-law viscosity model, albeit modified to incorporate a low-shear Newtonian plateau. Infinite aspect ratio linear stability results are presented for both a narrow-gap width and a finite radius of curvature.

Nonlinear Electrophoresis of Microparticles in Shear Thinning Fluids
LangmuirThe nonlinear electric field dependence of particle electrophoresis has been demonstrated to occur in Newtonian fluids for highly charged particles under large electric fields. It has also been predicted to arise from the rheological effects of non-Newtonian fluids even at small electric fields.

Saffman-Taylor instability of shear thinning fluids
Physics of Fluids, 2007A theoretical study of the Saffman-Taylor instability criterion in a Hele-Shaw cell when an inviscid fluid pushes a shear thinning fluid, is presented. The shear thinning fluid model consists of three independent fluids, two of which are Newtonian while the viscosity of the third is linearly dependent of the shear rate. The corresponding Darcy’s law is

Remarks on non‐shear thinning elastic fluids
Polymer Engineering & Science, 1986AbstractIn response to difficulties encountered in measuring and reproducing the flow properties of Boger fluids (dilute solutions of polyarcylamide in corn syrup), Choplin, et al. proposed it particular variety of lubricant (Emkarox) and also solutions of polyacrylamide (Pusher 700) in mixtures of glycerine and water as better model fluids for molten ...

Flow of shear-thinning fluids in gaps
1988Calculation procedures are presented for the laminar flow of generalized Newtonian fluids through an eccentric axial gap and through an axisymmetric casing of arbitrary shape. Experimental and numerical data are compared for a fluid with the viscosity function described by the Ellis law. Good agreement is found in both cases.
