Shear wave velocity-based evaluation of liquefaction resistance of in-situ sand with aging effects
The shear wave velocity is one of the commonly used parameters to evaluate liquefaction resistance of sandy soils. In this study, based on the initial liquefaction criterion-based shear wave velocity characterization model (i.e., the "Zhou-Chen model ...

Measurement of Shear Wave Velocities of Sand in A Centrifuge
ABSTRACT A method of measuring the shear wave velocities of sand in a centrifuge is presented. The generation and propagation of seismic waves are modelled within the framework of elastodynamics. An experimental system to measure the shear wave velocities was developed with a disk-shaped piezo-electric oscillator as a seismic wave generator.

Shear and compressional wave velocities, coupled with other petrophysical data, are vital in determining the dynamic modules magnitude in geomechanical studies and hydrocarbon reservoir characterization. But, due to field practices and high running cost,

Effects of Particle Shape on the Shear Wave Velocity and Shear Modulus of 3D Printed Sand Analogs
Isolating the effects of individual particle properties (e.g. shape, size, mineralogy, surface roughness) on the mechanical behavior of naturally occurring coarse-grained soils is a significant challenge in experimental studies.

Inner core composition paradox revealed by sound velocities of Fe and Fe-Si alloy
The origin of the observed low shear wave velocity in the solid inner core is unclear. Here, the authors report shear wave velocities of iron and iron-silicon alloy under Earth’s core conditions by shock compression and find that neither the effect of ...

Uncertainty in Shear-Wave Velocity Profiles
AbstractThis paper considers the uncertainty in the shear wave velocity (Vs) of soil and rock profiles for use in earthquake site response calculations. This uncertainty is an important contributor to uncertainty in site response, which in turn is an important contributor to uncertainty in earthquake ground motions and in seismic hazard.
