MD modeling of cracks in clay at the nanoscale [PDF]
Cracks in clay are significant in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering (e.g., embankment erosion and stability of landfill cover systems). This article studies the mechanism of nucleation and growth of cracks in clay at the nanoscale through full-scale molecular dynamics simulations.

Mechanical strength and millimeter-wave transmittance spectrum of stacked sapphire plates bonded by sodium silicate solution [PDF]
The polarization modulator unit for the low-frequency telescope in LiteBIRD employs an achromatic half-wave plate (AHWP). It consists of five layers of a-cut sapphire plate, which are stacked based on a Pancharatnam recipe. In this way, the retardance of the AHWP is a half-wave over a bandwidth of 34-161 GHz.

Shear bond strength between veneering ceramics and ceria-stabilized zirconia/alumina [PDF]
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Ceria-stabilized tetragonal ZrO(2)/Al(2)O(3) nanocomposite (Ce-TZP/A) offers superior properties compared to yttria-stabilized zirconia (Y-TZP). However, the bond quality to veneering ceramics has not been investigated. PURPOSE: The
