Shear deformation potentials in metals
Surface Science, 1973Abstract The differential approach, based on the Green's function method and the muffin-tin approximation for the crystal potential, which was proposed recently as a convenient method of obtaining accurate deformation potentials in metals is discussed briefly here with particular emphasis on the relation of the method to stress-modulation experiments.

Effect of Shear Deformation on Deformed Microstructures of Austenitic Grains [PDF]
Electron backscattered diffraction analysis has been used to investigate the effect of shear deformation on microstructural evolution of a Ni-30Fe alloy during hot deformation. The alloy was compressed by 50% or 75% in thickness at a strain rate of 1/s in a single pass at 1023K using a hot compression simulator.

A NOTE ON A GENERALIZED SHEAR DEFORMATION [PDF]
In the absence of body forces a certain generalized shear deformation is shown to be possible in an unconstrained isotropic elastic solid if and only if the elastic solid satisfies a condition which renders it incapable of obeying the Baker-Ericksen (BE) inequalities.

Shear Deformable Plate Elements
2020This chapter starts with the analytical description of thick plate members. Thick plates are plates where the contribution of the shear force on the deformations is considered. Based on the three basic equations of continuum mechanics, i.e., the kinematics relationship, the constitutive law, and the equilibrium equation, the partial differential ...

Drop deformation in sheared polymer blends
Journal of Rheology, 2007Drop deformation in equiviscous polymer blends with dispersed phase volume fraction ranging from 0 to 10% has been investigated by video microscopy and image analysis in a parallel plate shear apparatus. Under steady external flow conditions the shape of individual drops, as measured by the three main axes, the orientation angle and the deformation ...

Shear Deformation and Buckling of Columns
Applied Mechanics Reviews, 1991It is shown that the prediction of buckling loads of columns that are very weak in shear is crucially dependent on the choice of direction for the axial load of the column in the buckled configuration. Examples are given showing the wide differences in buckling load predicted by different choices.

A nonlocal zeroth-order shear deformation theory for nonlinear postbuckling of nanobeams
, 2017In this work, a nonlocal zeroth-order shear deformation theory is developed for the nonlinear postbuckling behavior of nanoscale beams. The beauty of this formulation is that, in addition to including the nonlocal effect according to the nonlocal ...
