Numerical Investigation of Parameters Influencing the Shear Capacity of Reinforced Concrete Beams

open access: yesBuildings
This study investigates the shear damage mechanisms in reinforced concrete (RC) beams through non-linear numerical modeling. Using the Finite Element Method (FEM) in ABAQUS, a Concrete Damaged Plasticity (CDP) framework was validated against experimental

Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.

Compatibility of Methacrylate Based Resins Controls Interfacial Failure and Toughness in 3D‐Printed Multimaterial Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work shows that the mechanical performance of multimaterial digital light processing (DLP) printed thermoset composites is governed by resin compatibility and interfacial design rather than spatial patterning alone. Brittle and ductile resin combinations produced premature interfacial failure, while graded interfaces and mechanically compatible ...

Experimental and Numerical Modal Analysis of Composite Sandwich Structures Using Surfboards as Model Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents an experimental and numerical modal investigation of composite sandwich structures using surfboards as model systems. By comparing different core materials and reinforcement strategies, the study demonstrates how local stiffeners influence vibrational response and introduce characteristic modal features, highlighting modal ...

Failure mechanism of the coal wall at the working face based on an eccentric compression mechanical model

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering
The deformation and failure of coal walls in front of a working face cause significant difficulties during mining operations. This study reveals the nonuniform distribution of bearing pressure in front of coal walls based on in situ monitoring data and ...

The effect of span length to height ratio of reinforced concrete slabs on pressure-impulse diagram with multiple failure modes under blast loading

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2012
In this paper, two loosely coupled single degree of freedom (SDOF) systems are used to generate pressure-impulse diagrams (P-I) with the flexural and direct shear responses of one-way reinforced concrete slabs subjected to blast loading.

Advanced Electron Microscopy and Microcomputed Tomography Analysis of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Base Superalloys After Short‐Term Multiaxial Creep

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work studies the anisotropic behavior of circular notched tensile specimens of Ni‐base superalloy single crystals during high‐temperature tensile creep along [001], [110], and [111]. Correlative scale‐bridging imaging of specimens reveals early rupture along [110] because 1) plastic deformation proceeds faster at notch center; 2) more (brittle ...

Study of shear performance of steel-timber composite connection with different shear connectors

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
The shear resistance of steel-timber composite (STC) connections largely depends on the shear performance of shear connectors. Three types of shear connectors, i.e., welded stud, screw, and screw-grout were considered in this paper.

Electrified Damage in Motion Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The electrified damage in motion systems is a fundamental framework presenting the degradation pathway arising from the coupling of electrical energy transport with mechanical contact and interfacial chemistry. The framework positions electrified damage as a distinct degradation regime with unique characteristic surface morphologies and failures of ...
