Direct numerical simulation of 'short' laminar separation bubbles with turbulent reattachment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Direct numerical simulation of the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations is used to study flows where laminar boundary-layer separation is followed by turbulent reattachment forming a closed region known as a laminar separation bubble.

A Reproducible and Scalable Process for High Yield Mesenchymal Stromal Cell Extracellular Vesicles Production

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stem cell derived extracellular vesicles (MSC‐EVs) are a promising therapeutic tool for regenerative medicine. However, the field lacks a reproducible high‐yield production method to answer the quantities needed for clinical translation.

AN IMPROVED TURBULENCE MODEL FOR ROTATING SHEAR FLOWS

open access: yesProceeding of Second Symposium on Turbulence and Shear Flow Phenomena, 2001
In the present study, we construct a turbulence model based on a low-Reynolds-number non-linear k–ϵ model for turbulent flows in a rotating channel. Two-equation models, in particular the non-linear k–ϵ model, are very effective for solving various flow problems encountered in technological applications.

Direct numerical simulation of a decelerated wall-bounded turbulent shear flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A fully developed turbulent channel flow is subjected to a mean strain that approximates that in a spatially developing adverse-pressure-gradient (APG) boundary layer. This is done by applying uniform irrotational temporal deformations to the flow domain

Additive‐Manufactured, Multifunctional Bioreactor Technology for Dynamic Culture of 3D Bioprinted Tissue Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We introduce an additively manufactured bioreactor with a perfusion flow system and integrated temperature and pH sensors for skeletal muscle tissue biofabrication. The bioreactor's performance was evaluated by assessing the viability, spreading of the myoblast cells in a printed scaffold, and contraction of the isolated murine musculi interossei ...

High y+ Shear-Stress Turbulence Implementation for High Flux Isotope Reactor Narrow Channel Flows

open access: yesFluids
The research objective of this work was to improve the engineering predictions of the turbulence characteristics of flows in curved narrow channels. Such channel flows are commonly encountered in nuclear research and test reactors, with one of them being

Nonlinear optimal perturbations in a Couette flow: bursting and transition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper provides the analysis of bursting and transition to turbulence in a Couette flow, based on the growth of nonlinear optimal disturbances. We use a global variational procedure to identify such optimal disturbances, defined as those initial ...

Optimization of Magnetic Milli‐Spinner for Robotic Endovascular Intervention

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents the design optimization of a multifunctional magnetic milli‐spinner for high‐speed propulsion and efficient clot debulking. The optimized design achieves an ultrafast swimming velocity of 55 cm/s (≈175 body lengths/s) in saline water, enabling stable upstream swimming against strong physiological flows and establishing magnetic milli‐

Small-Scale Anisotropy in Stably Stratified Turbulence; Inferences Based on Katabatic Flows

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2023
The focus of the current study is on the anisotropy of stably stratified turbulence that is not only limited to large scales and an inertial subrange but also penetrates to small-scale turbulence in the viscous/dissipation subrange on the order of the ...

Turbulent bubbly flow in pipe under gravity and microgravity conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Experiments on vertical turbulent flow with millimetric bubbles, under three gravity conditions, upward, downward and microgravity flows (1g, -1g and 0g), have been performed to understand the influence of gravity upon the flow structure and the phase ...
