Ensemble Force Spectroscopy by Shear Forces

Journal of Visualized Experiments, 2022
Single-molecule techniques based on fluorescence and mechanochemical principles provide superior sensitivity in biological sensing. However, due to the lack of high throughput capabilities, the application of these techniques is limited in biophysics. Ensemble force spectroscopy (EFS) has demonstrated high throughput in the investigation of a massive ...

Indirect shear force estimation for multi-point shear force operations

Proceedings of the SIGCHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2013
The possibility of using shear forces is being explored recently as a method to enrich touch screen interaction. However, most of the related studies are restricted to the case of single-point shear forces, possibly owing to the difficulty of independently sensing shear forces at multiple touch points.

Proximal electromagnetic shear forces

Journal of Microscopy, 1999
We perform a simple model calculation to estimate the electromagnetically induced shear force caused by a current dissipation when a charged tip is moved parallel to a conducting material. For parameters typical in shear force imaging, the force is many orders of magnitude below reported values.

Shearing Forces and Bending Moments

1990
In the previous programme we studied the effect of external loads upon the members of pin jointed frames. We saw that, as a result of the loading, such members were subjected to direct forces acting along their longitudinal axes and increased or decreased in length according to the sense of those forces.

Industrial Test on Shearing Force of Rolling Shear

Advanced Materials Research, 2010
The accuracy of the max shear force of rolling shear is of vital importance to the proper selection of motor power and the optimization design of structure strength. The test on shear force during the shearing process of stainless steel was done on 3000 mm cut-to-length rolling shear of some Large-scale Iron & Steel Co., Ltd.

Platelet Aggregation and In Vivo Shear Forces

Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 1994
SummaryHaemodynamic shear forces have been reported to exert direct and indirect effects on platelet reactivity. In vitro, they activate platelets leading to spontaneous or facilitated aggregation. In vivo, they stimulate the production of endothelium-derived antiaggregatory agents.

Shear force microscopy with a nanoscale resolution

Ultramicroscopy, 2005
This paper presents a shear force microscope having a nanometric resolution at high scan rates. Current techniques were reviewed and tested, and a design based on the use of a tuning fork is described. The use of a low quality factor enabled us to decrease the response time and increase the stability of the tracking.

Tuning fork shear-force feedback

Ultramicroscopy, 1998
Investigations have been performed on the dynamics of a distance regulation system based on an oscillating probe at resonance. This was examined at a tuning fork shear-force feedback system, which is used as a distance control mechanism in near-field scanning optical microscopy.
