Applicability of the Amplification Factor to the Distribution of Design Story Shear Force Coefficients in Seismically Isolated Buildings Subjected to Long‐Period and Long‐Duration Ground Motions

open access: yesJAPAN ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW
ABSTRACT The response spectrum method, specified in Notification No. 2009 of the Ministry of Construction, is not included among the countermeasures introduced in 2016 to address long‐period and long‐duration ground motions (LPGMs) associated with the Nankai Trough.

Mesoscale Domain Evolution Mechanism during Alternating Current (AC) Poling of Relaxor Ferroelectrics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric domain variants that are energetically equivalent are expected to remain preserved during polarization reversal. However, phase‐field simulations reveal that inclined domain walls in relaxor ferroelectrics can undergo irreversible elimination during alternating current poling through a proximity effect driven by long‐range elastic ...

New database for the estimation of dynamic coefficient of friction of snow

open access: yesOpen Geosciences
Knowledge of the Coulomb dynamic coefficient of friction of snow is a vital input parameter for the estimation of run-out distance, velocity, forces, and lateral spread of the snow avalanches in the hilly regions.

Experimental Study on Shear Lag Effect of Long-Span Wide Prestressed Concrete Cable-Stayed Bridge Box Girder under Eccentric Load

open access: yesConstruction Materials
Based on the engineering background of the wide-width single cable-stayed bridge, the shear lag effects of the cross-section of these bridge box girders under the action of the eccentric load were experimentally studied. The behavior of shear lag effects

Experimental Investigation on Unloading-Induced Sliding Behavior of Dry Sands Subjected to Constant Shear Force

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Infilled joints or faults are often subjected to long-term stable shear forces, and nature surface processes of normal unloading can change the frictional balance.

Sustainable Electrochemical Synthesis of High‐Quality MXenes: Mechanistic Insights, Applications, Challenges, and Technological Prospects

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrochemical etching provides an eco‐friendly alternative to hazardous HF methods for MXene production. This approach facilitates the selective isolation of the A‐layer from MAX phases with tunable surface terminations. Controlling voltage, electrolytes, temperature, and duration enables the optimal structural integrity. Nevertheless, existing scale

Mechanical and Electrical Phenotype of hiPSC‐Cardiomyocytes on Fibronectin‐Based Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce fibronectin‐based PEG hydrogels with controlled rigidity to enable the culture of iPSC‐derived cardiomyocytes. These substrates offer an alternative to the current culture of these cells on fibronectin‐coated glass, providing enhanced structural and functional behavior. The system provides a more physiologically relevant platform to assess

Standardized Effect Measures Informing Next‐Generation Strategies for Mechanical Stimulation in Cartilage Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This systematic review quantitatively compares conventional mechanical stimulation strategies in cartilage tissue engineering across 85 heterogeneous in vitro studies. Applying standardized effect measures, meta‐analysis reveals that combined compression and shear loading optimally promotes cartilage matrix development.

Neutrophil‐Mimetic MRI Enables Ultra‐Early Detection of Vascular Inflammation After Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed neutrophil‐mimetic MRI probes that detect ultra‐early neuroinflammation following ischemic stroke by targeting E‐selectin. Within seconds of their injection, these microparticles mimic initial leukocyte adhesion to the activated cerebral endothelium.
