Molecular dynamics simulation of shear friction process in tectonically deformed coal
Shear friction is an important deformation process in tectonically deformed coals (TDCs) and is closely related to the dynamic metamorphism of coal. In the current study, we perform a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation of the shear friction process on ...

Experimental study on nonlinear friction behavior of granular flow lubrication
Solid granules have good lubrication performance and load-bearing capacity, which has been concerned by researchers. However, the correlation mechanism between lubrication performance and granular medium dynamics is hardly focused on.

Friction of Shear-Fracture Zones [PDF]
A shear fracture of brittle solids under compression undergoes a substantial evolution from the initial microcracking to a fully formed powder-filled shear zone. Experiments covering the entire process are relatively easy to conduct, but they are very difficult to investigate in detail. Numerically, the large strain limit has remained a challenge.

Experimental study on interfacial friction characteristics of composite geomembranes
The interfacial friction characteristics of composite geomembranes have a significant impact on the stability of engineering structures. To comprehensively analyze the interfacial friction properties of composite geomembranes and cushion materials, the ...

Shear thickening fluids (STFs) refer to non-Newtonian fluids of the dilatant variety, wherein their viscosity experiences a significant surge with an escalation in the shear rate. In this investigative work, the friction behavior between yarns (pull-out)

We discuss crack propagation along the interface between two dissimilar materials. The crack edge separates two states of the interface, ``stick'' and ``slip''. In the slip region we assume that the shear stress is proportional to the sliding velocity, i.e. the linear viscous friction law.

Friction by Shear Deformations in Multilayer Graphene [PDF]
We present accurate calculations of friction in graphene films in configurations simulating the presence of an anchoring substrate. We find that a slider induces both out-of-plane and shear deformations, which increase with the thickness of the supported film.

Pre-Cracked Concrete Shear Strengthened with External CFRP Strips [PDF]
In reinforced concrete design, there are situations where transfer of shear across a specific plane needs to be considered. Examples of such situation include corbels, bearing shoes, ledger beam bearing, and a host of connection between precast concrete ...
