Synthesis and Mechanistic Study of a Copolymer Demulsifier for Dehydration of Water‐in‐Oil Emulsion of Crude Oil

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
P(AM‐EHMA‐VBS‐VP), a novel polymeric demulsifier, adsorbs at the interface, reduces interfacial modulus, overcomes asphaltene‐inhibited coalescence, and promotes droplet coalescence for effective demulsification. This study presents the synthesis and characterization of a novel polymeric demulsifier, P(AM‐EHMA‐VBS‐VP), through emulsion polymerization ...

Innovative Design‐for‐Recycling for Critical Material‐Free Interconnection of PV Modules

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, EarlyView.
We offer a fully demountable module design, encompassing a double layer encapsulation and mechanical pressing of connectors on solar cell metallization interconnection. Optical and thermal simulations have been carried out and their results underlines this innovative module architecture's interest.

Periglacial Vegetation‐Banked Terraces: A Global Survey

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Periglacial vegetation‐banked terraces (VBTs) are roughly parallel, step‐like landforms with bare treads and vegetated risers, where tread length (across‐slope) markedly exceeds tread width (downslope). Many follow the contour, but others dip off‐contour at angles of up to 40°.

A conservative numerical scheme for the multilayer shallow‐water equations on unstructured meshes

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
An energy‐conserving scheme is derived for the multilayer shallow water model, making use of the direct connection between energy conservation and the skew symmetry of the Poisson bracket for the model. A new mechanism is proposed to prevent layer interface outcropping.

Total energy conservation for explaining discrepancies between field observations and the traditional thermal energy balance

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Motivated by discrepancies between field observations and the traditional thermal energy balance derived from the first law of thermodynamics, total energy conservation is applied to derive a generalized thermal energy balance for atmospheric applications. Total energy conservation accounts for all forms of energy variation, including kinetic, thermal,

Rapid versus slow intensification of idealized tropical cyclones using soundings from reanalysis

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Climatologically averaged environmental wind and moisture around intensifying tropical cyclones are used in an idealized model to further discriminate differences between ensembles of rapidly (RI) and slowly (SI) intensifying storms. On average, RI storms have lower vertical tilt, are more axisymmetric, and less ventilated at onset than SI storms, and ...
