A Seismic Hazard Map Based on Geology and Shear‐wave Velocity in Rawalpindi–Islamabad, Pakistan
Acta Geologica Sinica - English Edition, 2021AbstractThe ‘twin cities’ district of Rawalpindi–Islamabad is among the most endangered seismic regions in Pakistan, with the seismic hazard assessed (0.32 g) to intensity IX MMI for a 475‐year return period. A seismic hazard map for Rawalpindi–Islamabad is presented herein, based on 85 shear‐wave velocity (VS) profiles obtained through geophysical H/V

Predictions of shear-wave velocities in southern California using surface geology
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 1998AbstractA new model of the average shear-wave velocity in the uppermost 30 m has been generated by extrapolation of discrete velocity profiles using surface geology at several scales. Statistical methods have been applied to create a map that is no more complicated than is supported by the velocity data; several geologic units with similar responses ...

A Site-Conditions Map for California Based on Geology and Shear-Wave Velocity
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2000One simple way of accounting for site conditions in calculating seismic hazards is to use the shear-wave velocity in the shallow subsurface to classify materials. The average shear-wave velocity to 30 m ( V 30s) has been used to develop site categories that can be used for modifying a calculated ground motion to account for site conditions.

Abstract A geostatistical approach is used to analyze the spatial distribution of fracture density in shear zones. The methodology proposed is illustrated with data obtained from the mapping of drift walls at the Henderson mine in the Chibougamau mining district, Quebec.

Seismic soil classification of Italy based on surface geology and shear-wave velocity measurements
Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, 2019Abstract During an earthquake the seismic wave amplification related to local site conditions can have a significant impact on the ground motion. In order to account for these local effects some proxies for the soil characteristics exist; e.g., the average shear-wave velocity of the upper 30 m ( V S , 30 ) , or the equivalent ...
