Effects of Shear Lag in Steel Box Girders of a Crane Runway [PDF]

open access: yesOvidius University Annals of Constanta - Series Civil Engineering, 2020
Abstract The term of shear lag is related to the discrepancies between the approximate theory of the bending of beams and their real behaviour. It refers to the increases of the bending stresses near the flange-to-web junctions and the corresponding decreases in the flange stresses away from these junctions.

Dynamic Analysis of a Steel–Concrete Composite Box-Girder Bridge–Train Coupling System Considering Slip, Shear-Lag and Time-Dependent Effects

open access: yesBuildings, 2022
A dynamic computational program considering slip, shear-lag and time-dependent effects of composite box-girder bridge–train coupling system is firstly proposed based on the authors’ previous studies. In the program, the long-term vertical displacement of

Correlating Stiffness and Shear Lag Behavior with Brace Configuration of Tall Truss Tube Buildings

open access: yesBuildings, 2015
As the height of buildings increases, effect of shear lag also becomes considerable in the design of high rise buildings. In this paper, shear lag effect in tall buildings of heights, i.e., 120, 96, 72, 48 and 36 stories of which aspect ratio ranges from

Study on the Deflection Calculation of a Steel Truss Web–Concrete Composite Beam Under Pre-Stress

open access: yesBuildings
The aim of this study is to establish an accurate calculation method for the deflection caused by the effect of pre-stress in a steel truss web–concrete composite girder bridge based on the energy variational principle, considering the influence of shear

Shear Lag Analysis of Simply Supported Box Girders Considering Axial Equilibrium and Shear Deformation

open access: yesBuildings, 2023
The conventional methods used to analyze the shear lag effect in simply supported box girders assume that the neutral axis of the section coincides with the centroid, which does not strictly satisfy the axial equilibrium condition.

Shear Lag Effect in Steel-UHPC Composite Girders of Cable-Stayed Bridges Considering Slip Under Asymmetric Axial Loading

open access: yesBuildings
The study presents an analysis of steel-Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) composite girders. Five composite girder specimens were designed and tested.

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation

Research on Shear Lag Effect of T-shaped Short-leg Shear Wall

open access: yesPeriodica Polytechnica Civil Engineering, 2017
Longitudinal displacement of cross section of T-shaped shortlegshear wall was simplified to three parts: shear lag warpingdisplacement, plane section bending displacement and axialdisplacement. Shear lag warping deformation was assumed ascubic parabola distribution along flange, and based on minimumpotential energy principle, differential equations ...

Advanced Electron Microscopy and Microcomputed Tomography Analysis of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Base Superalloys After Short‐Term Multiaxial Creep

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work studies the anisotropic behavior of circular notched tensile specimens of Ni‐base superalloy single crystals during high‐temperature tensile creep along [001], [110], and [111]. Correlative scale‐bridging imaging of specimens reveals early rupture along [110] because 1) plastic deformation proceeds faster at notch center; 2) more (brittle ...
