Leukocyte margination at arteriole shear rate [PDF]

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, 2014
We numerically investigated margination of leukocytes at arteriole shear rate in straight circular channels with diameters ranging from 10 to 22 μm. Our results demonstrated that passing motion of RBCs effectively induces leukocyte margination not only in small channels but also in large channels.

Crystallization Kinetics of Colloidal Spheres under Stationary Shear Flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A systematic experimental study of dispersions of charged colloidal spheres is presented on the effect of steady shear flow on nucleation and crystal-growth rates.

Influence of sympathetic vasoconstrictor tone on conduit artery retrograde and oscillatory shear: Effects of habitual aerobic exercise in middle-aged and older adults

open access: yesJournal of Physical Fitness and Sports Medicine, 2018
Retrograde and oscillatory shear can induce profound pro-atherogenic effects on endothelial cells, and increase with advancing age in peripheral conduit arteries.

Habitual cigarette smoking attenuates shear‐mediated dilation in the brachial artery but not in the carotid artery in young adults

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, 2020
In the present study, we hypothesized that habitual cigarette smoking attenuates endothelial function in the cerebral circulation as well as that of the peripheral circulation in young adults.

Role of high shear rate in thrombosis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery, 2015
Acute arterial occlusions occur in high shear rate hemodynamic conditions. Arterial thrombi are platelet-rich when examined histologically compared with red blood cells in venous thrombi. Prior studies of platelet biology were not capable of accounting for the rapid kinetics and bond strengths necessary to produce occlusive thrombus under these ...

Two-state shear diagrams for complex fluids in shear flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The possible "phase diagrams'' for shear-induced phase transitions between two phases are collected. We consider shear-thickening and shear-thinning fluids, under conditions of both common strain rate and common stress in the two phases, and present the ...

Efeect of the demulsifier additive on the performance characteristics of fuel oil

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений: Проблемы энергетики, 2017
Experimental studies of the effects of additive based on demulsifier diproksamin-157 on the performance characteristics of the fuel oil: the viscosity, pour point and the degree of dehydration at different temperatures and additive concentrations have ...

Effect of Shear Rate and Nanoparticles in Extrusion Foaming of Polystyrene in the Presence of Nitrogen Gas [PDF]

open access: yesعلوم و تکنولوژی پلیمر, 2014
This study was an effort to control foam structure with controlled shear rate in a slit die with addition of nanosilica in the extrusion process. We used general purpose polystyrene as the matrix, nanosilica as a nucleating agent and nitrogen gas as the ...

Crossover between Equilibrium and Shear-controlled Dynamics in Sheared Liquids

open access: yes, 2002
We present a numerical simulation study of a simple monatomic Lennard-Jones liquid under shear flow, as a function of both temperature and shear rate.

Improving of boiler fuel quality by additives

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений: Проблемы энергетики, 2017
The possibility of improving the rheological properties of the fuel oil by the use of additives of different nature including nanoparticles has been shown. Technological schemes additive dosing have been designed.
