Shear localization in metallic materials at high strain rates

open access: yes, 2020
Three factors govern adiabatic shear localization: strain hardening (or softening), strain-rate hardening, and thermal softening. It is typically associated with large shear strains (>1), high strain rates (103-107 s-1), and high temperatures (40-100% of

Excavation-Induced Disturbance in Natural Structured Clay: In-Situ Tests and Numerical Analyses

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Deep excavation in natural structured clay causes disturbance to the surrounding soil, which damages the soil structure and results in soil strength reduction.

Enhancing the CPT correlation with the small strain shear stiffness of sands

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal, 2017
The cone penetration test (CPT) is a valuable geotechnical insitu test. Yet, the CPT correlations with the small strain shear modulus and seismic shear wave velocity still need more research to enhance their accuracy.

Normal and Fibrotic Rat Livers Demonstrate Shear Strain Softening and Compression Stiffening: A Model for Soft Tissue Mechanics

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Tissues including liver stiffen and acquire more extracellular matrix with fibrosis. The relationship between matrix content and stiffness, however, is non-linear, and stiffness is only one component of tissue mechanics.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Identification Of Shear Strain On The Surface Ground Of Wangi-Wangi Island, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, Using Nakamura’s Technique and The Possibility Of Its Impacts

open access: yesJGEET: Journal of Geoscience, Engineering, Environment and Technology, 2023
This research was conducted to determine the possible impact of an earthquake on the mainland of Wangi-Wangi Island based on the presence of shear strain on the surface ground (γ).

Design of horizontal shear strain instrument for co-estimation of soil stress-strain [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2020
This study aimed to design and fabricate the horizontal shear strain transducer (HST) for measuring the soil strain under the agricultural machinery traffic by using a rotary potentiometer which was an angular strain change detector.

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Following the evolution of hard sphere glasses in infinite dimensions under external perturbations: compression and shear strain. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2014
We consider the adiabatic evolution of glassy states under external perturbations. The formalism we use is very general. Here we use it for infinite-dimensional hard spheres where an exact analysis is possible.

Artificial Intelligence in Systemic Sclerosis: Clinical Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune disease defined by immune dysregulation, vasculopathy, and progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Despite advances in care, major complications such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and myocardial involvement remain the leading causes of morbidity and mortality.
