Shear joint capability versus bolt clearance [PDF]

open access: yes
The results of a conservative analysis approach into the determination of shear joint strength capability for typical space-flight hardware as a function of the bolt-hole clearance specified in the design are presented. These joints are comprised of high-

Heat Conduction Modulation in Incommensurate Twisted Stacking of Transition‐Metal Dichalcogenide

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The interlayer thermal conductance in twisted bilayer TMDs is initially investigated experimentally by the thermoreflectance method. The overlap of lattice vibrations within individual layers and the interlayer interactions, as elucidated through both Raman spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations, are demonstrated to be critical factors in ...

Scaling‐Up of Structural Superlubricity: Challenges and Opportunities

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
At increasing length‐scales, structural superlubricity (SSL) faces challenges from physical and chemical energy dissipation pathways. This study reviews recent experimental and theoretical progress on these challenges facing the scaling‐up of SSL, as well as perspectives on future directions for realizing and manipulating macroscale superlubricity ...

Comparative analysis of saturated–unsaturated shear strength under undrained loading: Experimental validation and ANN prediction of clayey soils

open access: yesAIP Advances
Geotechnical designs and analyses of earth structures and foundations exclusively involve the assessment and consideration of unsaturated soil shear strength. The laboratory testing equipment and methods for predicting the unsaturated soil shear strength

All‐Cellulose‐Based Photonic Glitters

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform, disc‐shaped photonic CNC glitters with adjustable structural colors and diameters are fabricated on hydrophilic ethyl cellulose films using electrospray deposition. By employing patterned ethyl cellulose films with pre‐designed hydrophilic regions, photonic patterns can be created with these all‐cellulose‐based glitters, demonstrating their ...

Highly Efficient 3D‐Printed PVDF‐Based Triboelectric Nanogenerators Featuring Polymorphic Perovskite Nanofillers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the use of a low‐cost 3D printing technique to prepare a large‐area PVDF‐FAPbI3 composite dielectric film for flexible TENG application. The δ→α phase transformation of the FAPbI3 nanofillers has significantly improved the β‐phase content, morphology, and dielectric properties of the PVDF film.

A new model for evaluating the dynamic shear strength of rocks based on laboratory test data for earthquake-resistant design

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2019
The dynamic shear strength of rocks is required for the earthquake-resistant design of nuclear power plants in Japan. This research aims to propose a mathematical model for estimating the dynamic strength and to validate the model. Two different types of

Fracture surface analysis in composite and titanium bonding: Part 1: Titanium bonding [PDF]

open access: yes
Fractured lap shear Ti 6-4 adherends bonded with polyphenyquinoxaline (PPQ) and polysulfone were analyzed. The effects of adherend pretreatment, stress level, thermal aging, anodizing voltage, and modified adhesive of Ti 6-4 adherend bonded with PPQ on ...

High Pressure Suppression of Plasticity due to Over-Nucleation of Shear Strain [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
High pressure shear band formation is a critical phenomenon in energetic materials due to its influence on both mechanical strength and mechanochemical activation. While shear banding is know to occur in a variety of these materials, the governing dynamics of the mechanisms is not well defined for molecular crystals.
