The shear strength of shear walls

open access: hybridBulletin of the New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering, 1970
To enable a comparison between the shear strength of shear walls and that of reinforced concrete beams to be made, the behaviour of the latter is briefly reviewed. The findings of research projects, related to deep beams and the effects of repeated cyclic loading, are summarised.

Intrinsic Grain Boundary Shear Coupling Tensor [PDF]

open access: yesActa Materialia 278 (2024): 120273, 2023
Grain boundary (GB) migration stands as a linchpin process governing microstructural evolution in polycrystalline materials. Over the past decade, the concept of shear coupling, quantified through the shear coupling factor, has transformed our understanding and driven the development of theoretical frameworks for unifying GB behaviors.

Shear Resistance Assessment of the Y-Type Perfobond Rib Shear Connector under Repeated Loadings

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
The steel–concrete composite structures consist of two different material parts, which are connected with reliable shear connectors to enable the combined action of the steel and concrete members.

Shear strength of granular materials [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Environmental and Civil Engineering, 2009
The shear strength properties of granular materials reflect their inherent force and fabric anisotropy. We analyze the role of fabric and force anisotropies with respect to the critical-state shear strength. Then, a model of accessible geometrical states in terms of particle connectivity and contact anisotropy is presented.

The Tension-Shear and Compression-Shear Joint Strength Model for Unsaturated Clay and Its Application to Slopes

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
The capillary component and adsorptive component of matric suction differently impact the soil strength. Due to the cavitation effects of pore water, the adsorption effect dominates the behavior of soil when matric suction exceeds the cavitation tension.

A Novel Hybrid Soft Computing Model Using Random Forest and Particle Swarm Optimization for Estimation of Undrained Shear Strength of Soil

open access: yesSustainability, 2020
Determination of shear strength of soil is very important in civil engineering for foundation design, earth and rock fill dam design, highway and airfield design, stability of slopes and cuts, and in the design of coastal structures.

Shear strength properties of hybrid (hinoki cypress and Japanese cedar) cross-laminated timber

open access: yesJournal of Wood Science, 2021
In this study, the out-of-plane shear strength of hybrid cross-laminated timber (CLT) with outer layers of hinoki (hinoki cypress, Chamaecyparis obtusa) and inner layers of sugi (Japanese cedar, Cryptomeria japonica) is investigated for four different ...

Shear design of HSC beams with combination of links and horizontal web steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The existing recommendations in Eurocode 2 and the British Code of Practice for the shear design of beams are derived from research conducted essentially on normal-strength concrete (NSC) with cube strengths up to 50 MPa, and it was found that the shear ...

Evolution of Peak Shear Strength of Rock Fractures Under Conditions of Repetitive Dry and Wet Cycling

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
The degradation of shear mechanical properties of rock fracture surfaces was determined after applying multiple dry-wet cycles. Artificially fractured feldspathic sandstone specimens were soaked in chemical solutions with pH values of 2, 7, and 12 for 3,

An Advanced Shear Strength Criterion for Rock Discontinuities Considering Size and Low Shear Rate

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The shear strength of the rock discontinuities under different shear rates is of great importance to evaluate the stability of rock mass engineering, which is remarkably influenced by the size effects induced by both the length and the undulated ...
