Influence of shear rate on the soil's shear strength
One of the most important mechanical properties is shear strength. It is conditioned by the value of the maximum shear stress that the soil can withstand before failure. Exceeding the shear strength causes one particle to slide next to another, causing the failure of soil.

Shear strength of granular materials [PDF]
The shear strength properties of granular materials reflect their inherent force and fabric anisotropy. We analyze the role of fabric and force anisotropies with respect to the critical-state shear strength. Then, a model of accessible geometrical states in terms of particle connectivity and contact anisotropy is presented.

Shear design of HSC beams with combination of links and horizontal web steel [PDF]
The existing recommendations in Eurocode 2 and the British Code of Practice for the shear design of beams are derived from research conducted essentially on normal-strength concrete (NSC) with cube strengths up to 50 MPa, and it was found that the shear ...

The capillary component and adsorptive component of matric suction differently impact the soil strength. Due to the cavitation effects of pore water, the adsorption effect dominates the behavior of soil when matric suction exceeds the cavitation tension.

Shear Resistance Assessment of the Y-Type Perfobond Rib Shear Connector under Repeated Loadings
The steel–concrete composite structures consist of two different material parts, which are connected with reliable shear connectors to enable the combined action of the steel and concrete members.

Shear strength properties of hybrid (hinoki cypress and Japanese cedar) cross-laminated timber
In this study, the out-of-plane shear strength of hybrid cross-laminated timber (CLT) with outer layers of hinoki (hinoki cypress, Chamaecyparis obtusa) and inner layers of sugi (Japanese cedar, Cryptomeria japonica) is investigated for four different ...

An Advanced Shear Strength Criterion for Rock Discontinuities Considering Size and Low Shear Rate
The shear strength of the rock discontinuities under different shear rates is of great importance to evaluate the stability of rock mass engineering, which is remarkably influenced by the size effects induced by both the length and the undulated ...
