Shear Strength of High-Strength Bolts

Journal of the Structural Division, 1965
Double shear tests of single 7/8-in. and 1-in. high-strength bolts are reported. Altogether, ninety-six A325 bolts were tested in A7 steel jigs or in A440 steel jigs. Eighty-four A354BC, A354BD, and A490 bolts were tested in jigs made of A440 or constructional alloy steel.

Shear Bond Strength Of Cement To Zirconia

Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology, 2009
This study investigated the shear bond strength (SBS) of various cements to zirconia ceramic.CoCr-cylinders were bonded to zirconia plates (20 mm × 10 mm × 2 mm; n = 8 per group) using four self-adhesive resin cements (one capsule, three hand-mixed) and four resin cements, partly in combination with a tribochemical/silane treatment.

Rate of Shear Effects on Vane Shear Strength

Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1985
A series of laboratory vane shear tests was performed on sedimented samples of kaolinite and slaked Pierre shale to determine the effects of shear rate and vane dimensions on measured strength. Results of the tests were expressed in terms of shear strength on a vertical plane and were plotted versus average shear rate.

Shear Strength of Soils [PDF]

open access: possible, 1998
Shear may be defined as the tendency of one part of a soil mass to slide with respect to the other. This tendency occurs on all planes throughout the soil mass. The singular plane of interest, however, is the plane of potential failure, called the plane of rupture.

Influence of Shear Velocity on Vane Shear Strength

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1977
Comparisons of field and laboratory vane shear strength measurements from geotechnical test areas in the San Diego Trough and Gulf of Maine were made to evaluate the influence of vane size, rotation rate, and sample disturbance on vane shear strength. Field vane strengths were observed to be significantly higher than laboratory strengths in both test ...

Estimation of Shear Strength of Structural Shear Walls

Journal of Structural Engineering, 2010
An analysis method for predicting the shear strength and behavior of structural shear walls under both monotonic and cyclic loading is presented in this paper. The proposed analysis method is based on the softened truss model theory and utilizes a newly proposed cracking angle of the concrete strut.

Residual Shear Strength

Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1970
AN EXPLANATION IS GIVEN FOR THE DEPENDENCE OF THE RESIDUAL ANGLE OF INTERNAL FRICTION OF SOIL ON CLAY CONTENT. ONCE RESIDUAL CONDITIONS ARE ATTAINED, THE SOIL IS SEPARATED BY A FAILURE PLANE INTO TWO RIGID BLOCKS THAT SLIDE OVER ONE ANOTHER. IF C IS THE CLAY FRACTION DEFINED AS THE VOLUME OF CLAY DIVIDED BY THE VOLUME OF SOLIDS, THEN AS A FIRST ...

Shear strength of orthodontic bonding agents

The European Journal of Orthodontics, 1988
The aim of this study was to compare the in vitro bond strength to enamel measured in shear of the light-activated bonding agent Heliosit-Orthodontic with the shear bond strength of the two-paste bonding resin Concise and the ‘no-mix’ bonding resin Right-On.

Shear strength of the human lumbar spine

Clinical Biomechanics, 2012
Shear loading is recognised as a risk factor for lower back pain. Previous studies of shear loading have either not addressed the influence of age, bone mineral density, axial height loss due to creep or were performed on animal specimens.Intact human lumbar motion segments (L2-3) were tested in shear using a modified materials testing machine, while ...
