Stiffness and shear strength of unsaturated soils in relation to soil-water characteristic curve
, 2016This paper introduces a methodology to predict the non-linear stiffness–suction and shear strength–suction relationships for unsaturated soils within the lower suction range from the non-linearity ...

Influence of Shear Velocity on Vane Shear Strength
Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1977Comparisons of field and laboratory vane shear strength measurements from geotechnical test areas in the San Diego Trough and Gulf of Maine were made to evaluate the influence of vane size, rotation rate, and sample disturbance on vane shear strength. Field vane strengths were observed to be significantly higher than laboratory strengths in both test ...

AN EXPLANATION IS GIVEN FOR THE DEPENDENCE OF THE RESIDUAL ANGLE OF INTERNAL FRICTION OF SOIL ON CLAY CONTENT. ONCE RESIDUAL CONDITIONS ARE ATTAINED, THE SOIL IS SEPARATED BY A FAILURE PLANE INTO TWO RIGID BLOCKS THAT SLIDE OVER ONE ANOTHER. IF C IS THE CLAY FRACTION DEFINED AS THE VOLUME OF CLAY DIVIDED BY THE VOLUME OF SOLIDS, THEN AS A FIRST ...

Estimation of Shear Strength of Structural Shear Walls
Journal of Structural Engineering, 2010An analysis method for predicting the shear strength and behavior of structural shear walls under both monotonic and cyclic loading is presented in this paper. The proposed analysis method is based on the softened truss model theory and utilizes a newly proposed cracking angle of the concrete strut.

Shear strength of orthodontic bonding agents
The European Journal of Orthodontics, 1988The aim of this study was to compare the in vitro bond strength to enamel measured in shear of the light-activated bonding agent Heliosit-Orthodontic with the shear bond strength of the two-paste bonding resin Concise and the ‘no-mix’ bonding resin Right-On.

Shear strength of the human lumbar spine
Clinical Biomechanics, 2012Shear loading is recognised as a risk factor for lower back pain. Previous studies of shear loading have either not addressed the influence of age, bone mineral density, axial height loss due to creep or were performed on animal specimens.Intact human lumbar motion segments (L2-3) were tested in shear using a modified materials testing machine, while ...

Shear loads in an aircraft fuselage will occur as a result of bending and torsion. Yield values under shear are necessary during the design phase since the material should not deform plastically below the limit load. The Metal Volume Fraction (MVF) method for shear yield strength prediction of Glare laminates was investigated.

Shear Strength of FRP Reinforced Concrete Members with Stirrups
, 2015The mechanisms of shear transfer in fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforced concrete members with shear reinforcement are discussed, and it is explained how these were used to derive the shear design provisions of the Canadian standard for design and ...

On the compressibility and shear strength of natural clays
, 1990The compressibility and strength characteristics of reconstituted clays are used as a basic frame of reference for interpreting the corresponding characteristics of natural sedimentary clays.
