Shear strength anisotropy of rooted soils [PDF]
The shear strength of rooted soils depends on the principal stress direction owing to the anisotropy in the soil structure and root system. Existing failure criteria cannot describe the strength anisotropy of rooted soils under general loading conditions because they are mainly based on the test results of direct shear.

Shear Behavior of Frozen Rock-Soil Mixture
Mechanical behavior of frozen rock-soil mixture was investigated through direct shear test based on remolded specimens. The peak shear strength of rock-soil mixture increases greatly when it is fully frozen.

Experimental study on shear characteristics of the silty clay soil-ice interface
During the spring thawing, the decrease of soil-ice interface strength by temperature may lead to slope instability. For this reason, some researchers have explored the relationship between temperature and soil-ice interface strength.

EFFECT OF NANOMATERIALS ON SHEAR STRENGTH OF GYPSEOUS SOIL
A Gypsum soil is an example of problematic soils and susceptible to large volumetric deformations when they become saturated. Various structures for instance: roads, spread foot, different kinds of building, expressways, as well as dams are damaged due to the swell and collapse of soils, this make such structures unqualified for using.

Factors Influencing the Mechanical Characteristics of a Pile–Soil Interface in Clay Soil
A series of direct shear tests using a large-scale constant-normal-stiffness direct-shear testing system was conducted to study the factors that influence the mechanical characteristics of a pile–soil interface (PSI) in clay soil. Interfaces of different

Experimental Study on the Shear Properties of Soil around Piles with Permeation Grouting
While post-grouting is frequently reported to improve the engineering performance of piles, the shear strength of the soil around piles is not well understood.

Project relevance: Shear strength of soil is used in slope stability analyses and engineering designs. Before the sand embankment is built at the project site to consolidate the soft alluvial clay, it is necessary to estimate its stability. This chapter will introduce shear strength of soil and factors affecting it.

Effect of temperature on the shear strength of soils and the soil–structure interface
In the present work, the shear behaviour of soils and the soil–concrete interface is investigated through direct shear tests at various temperatures. A conventional direct shear apparatus, equipped with a temperature control system, was used to test sand,
